Rust on Stillen exhaust

i just emailed Chuck clemans that i will be making a formal complaint and I would like to speak to your manager. He stated that he has passed on the info to his manager. Will keep you guys posted

after I spoke to someone there they asked me to email them pictures but from the answers I got on the phone & seeing there atitude towards this I never even bothered... hope you get some answers... I'd be very happy if they replaced it with a better stainless, although I also know there is no chance of that happening. hell, I'd be happy if they gave me back some of my money & took the exhaust back & stuck it where ever the rust belt don't shine

The response from Stillen is assinine! A car that went through a hurricane with a B&B TriFlow SS exhaust on it and sat for at least 6 weeks after never even rusted.

Inferior quality FTL. Sorry you guys have to go through BS like that.

Good luck with it; I've always found Stillens products to be overpriced and the quality to be suspect. Keep in mind that the rust issue isn't new, I remember back in the day their Maxima exhaust rusted as well. And this was probably 10 years ago.

I had their SC kit on my Maxima for a while since it was the only forced induction option. But overall, the kit was junk. The only good parts were the ones Stillen had no part in like the Vortech blower itself. All Stillen had to do was fabricate a bracket that held the blower in place so the belts lined up. They couldn't get that right and owners had multiple belt issues. We had to shim the pulleys and bracket itself just to get it to line up right and even then, the kit snapped belts like it was going out of style.

I was given the general managers contact name : Chuck Howlett 800-576-2131. I plan on giving him a call soon. I urge anyone that also has similiar issues to call and make a complaint and request a replacement with another kit. Turbocad you should definetly call and try to get that replaced, I'm sure mine will look like yours very soon.

Here's Ege's old exhaust, not much rust at all, and they say 304 SS on their website:

still on, I haven't had the fx on a lift in a while, but next time I'm under there I intend on beating the pipes with a pointy ball peen hammer, if I get penetration or see weakness in the metal then I will consider this more than just a cosmetic issue, but if it's just rust colored but still solid then theres not much more I can do really... maybe sand it down & paint it with a high heat paint to limit the exposure to oxidation, but tell me that won't look like an abortion, a painted exhaust system... just seems too ghetto to me... a painted exhaust, I may as well put a hood scoop & stick on fender vents & hang rows of tiny pom poms from my headliner...

Dont forget the whistle tips...

you know, just to go on record here, yes my exhaust stillen looks like a rusty shade of brown but I was under there just last week & I gotta admit that overall the exhaust is still perfectly fine with no deterioration beyond the coloring itself. I even scratched/sanded a little piece of the pipe & it is still shiny under the suface coloring. it looks like, if I was so inclined, I would be able to polish the whole thing right up to a shiny polished look really. that'll never happen though, I only cleaned my exhaust tips once since I got it

I know the stillen got a lot of badmouthing here because of the way it looks, but I've seen a local nismo that looks exactly like my stillen does too, guess it's all the salty winters...

I'll still say though for what they charge for this exhaust it could be higher quality SS, they get off with the 304ss answer, but there are many different grades of 304 too. I've seen even some factory exhausts that don't look nearly as bad cosmetically even after more years of use, & I'm sure there just 304ss too. all 304 stainless is not the same just because it's 304...

Stillen dual exhaust owners out there -- just want to see if there is any update on how your exhaust is holding up.

Interested to know if it's stayed as surface rust and hasn't created any leaks. Looks like Invidia is the way to go for a true dual exhaust.

Stillen still going strong, no rust. But I have to say, even if there was rust I don't think it matters at all - unless it causes a leak. To date I have never heard of a Stillen failure, anywhere.

IMO, the Stillen's sound blows Invidia out of the water.

I was thinking about this in terms of sound - hence bringing this thread back to life.

I haven't been knocked off my socks with the Invidia exhaust note -- just doesn't sound tuned at all.

Nismo and HKS sound exotic, but the HKS just sometimes isn't loud enough for me. Stillen might fit the bill going true dual, but that surface rust would bother me after spending $1,000+.
