Rust near gas cap

Has anyone else encountered rust near the gas cap? I plan to hold on to the car so I'm going to take it to the body shop for repairs. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this.

I have an 07 and i have no rust around my gas cap. I also live where it snows. Probably not common but it happens. Shouldn't costs much to fix

One thing I do when filling up with gas is either put a paper towel there so when I pull the nozzle out it doesn't drip on the paint, or I squeegee the area to remove any that dripped.

I don't know if this is common, but maybe the gas ate away at the paint. Or it could just be water pooled there and it could have been salty during the winter.

i have had this issue too. i think it was when i washed my car i never dried out that area and i always drop some gas when i take out the nozzle. im glad i noticed it early enough to where i just used some coke and high grit sand paper and just polished it up.
