Roof top cargo carriers

Do you have a picture? Do you want to sell yours? hehehe.

I like this idea, only issue is then it would take up our 3rd garage spot unless it would somehow fold up like the carpod or be narrow enough for me to be able to carry it into the basement like a top cargo...would have liked to keep that open for an eventual boat or SOMETHING more exciting like a trailer with ATVs or something hopefully one day.

Problem solved. Tell your wife you need to Buy a boat and tow it for hauling her cargo around! win win!

Not really a win if I don't want to spend much $$ right now. I'd only be will to spend something that would probably get me this...

I like the hitch carrier idea a lot better than the roof top box. The best thing that the roof boxes have is security of good locks and non-visible cargo. Otherwise they're limited on usable space, a pain to deal with, and ugly. The hitch carriers are not attractive by any means, but convenient. Now, I like the fold up trailer idea. They're easy and can be built in any variety of configurations. They fold up and store in a relatively small area. Here's mine. Please excuse the older pictures.

:good: Nice fold up feature on the trailer. I think it's way over kill for Jonas for now
:smile (2): Minivan minivan... I'm kidding. Well I think you still can get by with one child and two dogs in the FX for now. It will be tight, but doable. A minivan will be the ultimate traveling vehicle when the 2nd child due to arrive.

I think the trailer with a removable locking top is the best choice, but I was thinking of a heavy duty one where you could carry an ATV in it or carry a small boat on top of it.
Second choice would be a rooftop carrier with a trailer hitch mount bike carrier also.

I like this set up just for extra cargo for road trip

Thanks, but that is just enough to fit someone's wife's shoes.

Do you have an example of what you are referring to as far as trailer with a removable locking top?

That was many, many, many years ago, I will have to dig through my photo albums. I made it myself, I welded up the frame, axle and the works. It was really slick. We would carry two tents, camp stoves, supplies, clothing and even took a small crawdad boat on top.
It will take some digging to find the pic (heck this was before we had home computers even, remember, I'm an old fart )

oh no worries then...I thought that you maybe had an idea of a link you can forward from online of a manufacturer that currently makes something that you are describing that I could purchase.

For anyone who wants a picture of a fx35 with a cargo carrier (I know I was looking), this is the Thule Atlantis 1600. e6a8e3ud.jpg

Can anyone recommend a good roof basket? I'm looking to add one to the suburban. Want one that is nice and long to take advantage of the long roof. Not looking to spend too much (I know, I know)... Something like this:

It limits the hatch the last 10% of opening. But the installation is the easiest thing. The Thule has knobs on the inside that tighten clamps onto the factory crossbars. It is very sturdy and not much noise at all on the highway. The lady got me a ski/snowboard rack, but this is so much more useful cause u can throw anything up there! I didn't tell her that though.
