Removing the Throttle Body

Hey guys. Ive been working on my car all day today and I am up to the point where I wanna remove and clean my throttle body. There are a bunch of posts and threads on cleaning it but none on removing it. I know obviously to take out the intake. After that I was wounding if there are any tricks I should know about or problems I may encounter. I figured I should un-plug the sensor first but after that I'm walking in the dark. The reason I'm removing and cleaning it is because I have the similar problem with the cold weather start up. I am like 70 percent sure it's my starter but the throttle body is cheaper to clean so I am gonna try that first before I go ahead and buy a new starter.

Straight forward by remove the 4 allen bolts. Be sure to catch the aluminum gasket once you slide the last bolts off.

Just a precaution, if you remove the tb for cleaning and move the butterfly valves you will have to perform a 'throttle valve closed position learning' procedure for the ECU.

Must bee my luck. I have remove aged clean the throttle body needn't times and I've not yet encounter one single problem. Just need to l open and close the butterfly gently.

Well I cleaned the throttle body fully even got some carb and throttle cleaner from advanced auto parts. It's clean but my car still won't start. The last diagnosis would be the starter so tomorrow I'm gonna run and order a new starter in the morning. I didn't run into a problem with the sensor yet but then again my car isn't turning on so I will find out soon enough. e5e6y7yq.jpg

Does your engine try to turn over at all? If it does, I doubt its the starter. Generally, if the start fail, you won't hear it even attempts to turn the engine at all.

I just hear like rapid firing basically. It sounds like all my spark plugs are going off. That's the best ehh I can explain it lol

Oo actually it'll have to wait. My intake is not connected currently. I will upload a video tomorrow once the intake is back on.

Does it just go tick tick tick tick with no engine noise, or chug chug chug chug engine noise but doesn't turn over?

That is usually a battery issue I believe. Did you happen to leave any lights on or a door open? Try to jump start it yet?

Yeah I tried jumping it from a battery pack thing and another car. Didn't help. I also checked the voltage coming out if the battery and it's fine. I had read that sometimes the battery gives enough for lights and radio but not enough for the starter. The battery is still in good condition.

ticking is usually the battery and sometimes a jump won't help. I would try a newer battery or check the battery connections. If it's the starter you won't hear any noise

Rapid ticking is usually battery. And FWIW, the FX is hard to jump. I never got it to jump off one of those emergency battery packs. And I couldn't jump it with my old company car either (20 minutes of revving and it still wouldn't turn over). It took my building's maintenance guy getting his V8 Titan to jump it. The older the battery is, the harder it will be to jump or charge.

^very true, when my battery kept dying it wouldnt start even witha jump. Getting a new battery fixed the problem

Well in that case before I purchase the starter I will get my friend to come with his silverado. Hopefully that does the trick. I don't know anyone with a bigger car then that

When mine died completely I couldn't jump start it or pack start it at first. However, I left the pack connected for 10-15 minutes I think, and it ended up starting. I'm pretty sure it was completely dead, like no lights turned on or anything.

I jumped mine's once and had a slight problem at first but, once I connected the cables the second time it worked. seems as though it wasnt getting a good enough connection on the battery cable with the type of connector that's on it.
