Reasons why you guys went Unichip vs uprev

I noticed a lot of you guys are running Unichip VS Osiris. At first i thought maybe they didn't support the FX and it was your only option. But then i saw that the FX was included. Price point is all about $500 for a unichip or Osiris standard. $700 for the tuner version so you can self edit. For me since i dont tune, it would be $500 for me. But to compare apples to apples it would be. $550 for unichip and $700 for Osiris Tuner. You can tune both.

Now i read on titan boards that many were Unichipped before Osiris came out and once it came out many dropped the unichip for Osiris and LOVED it. Supposely they made more power under the curve and just slightly more peak.

Resell might be a easier method as you can sell unichip to a lot more potiental customers VS reselling Osiris would be mainly nissan owners.

I'm looking to get tuned in summer. While mainly the Z/G boards tend to favor Osiris, this board seems to have a liking to unichip. Just wanted to know why and maybe i'm missing something and i should get unichip. Because i plan on ordering from uprev directly for $500, i get a couple of Etunes or off the shelf tunes. Later down the road, i might go to GRD and get a AWD DYNO tune to see if anything can be cleaned up or better tweaked. since dyno tune > etune.

I don't have Unichip yet, but I think a lot of it has to do with availiability and ease. There was not many options for us FXs until Chedman13 did some reasearch on this and found the Unichip for the forum. The relative ease of install and the ability to tune to your specs via laptop whenever you want ensures replay value. Plus you can get a separate controller, giving you the ability to have five different maps installed being able to change maps on the fly. Osiris could be better in some ways possibly, but no one has really done any research in that area yet. I'm sure others will chime in soon and give more details.

I'll chime in more later, but one is a re-flash, another is a piggy back (UniChip). You can use the UniChip on almost any car with the right harness (or just hardwire) to ECU.

Both have control of similar/same parameters. What is "better" comes down to the map itself.

Then again, these are pre-set maps, and you can further tune both by dyno tune or non-dyno tune (UniChip).

Osiris, yes you can sell your ECU, but then you have no ECU in your car...

UniChip just provides much better options and control IMO.

In addition to what Ed mentioned above...

1) tech support (Uprev is a tiny company, Dastek is global with literally thousands of users across multiple platforms)

2) no reflashes (Unichip is invisible to the dealership and in no way affects the integrity or lifespan of the factory ecm.)

3) product support (because of its universal applicability, updates, bugs, software and firmware issues are addressed quickly)

4) versatility (anyone, anywhere who uses the Unichip on any vehicle can answer any software or hardware questions you may have. For instance, I'm a member of an Audi forum based in South Africa, where Dastek is based, and even though their Audi's and VW's are very different from mine, their techniques still apply)

I'd also like to point out, regarding your Titan example, that Uprev released Osiris in 2005, and since then a new and vastly superior version of the Unichip has been released (Unichip Q) which is essentially every different module and accessory they've ever released in one unit.

Are there things that Uprev can do that Unichip cannot? Sure, but in the grand scheme I found the reverse to be more true for my situation. That, and Ed negotiated a sweet deal on the Unichip. ;)

Actually if u buy directly and get a cable from Osiris, all you have to do is unmarry and sell. U don't remove the ecu. Unless u went the cheap route and just bought a flash.

The whole point on it being backed by a bigger company is good. But isn't a piggyback limited to some degree?

Do/did you guys have a group deal on this?

No group buy, just the Chedman13 special... just ask for Aaron at UniChip and talk to him.

Don't get me wrong Osiris is good. Logan has it and many G35/350Z members.

I forgot if you have a FX35 or FX45, but la_fx35 has tried several maps UniChip created and there is definite gains/throttle response so there is no denying (from our accounts at least) that the UniChip works really well.

I did my research prior to buying the UniChip too -- it was a no brainer for me...

I have neither. Currently i'm a G35x, in a sense a slammed FX LOL.

I'm doing my homework and research now. It isn't exactly a clear cut answer. I've tried to PM the guys over on the titan boards who have had both and are currently using Osiris but i think they moved on.

I understand like say TS reflash, once the main tuner guy passed away or was it his brother, that was dead in the water. But this Osiris and unichip isnt like that. Osiris tuner is exactly the same as unichip. Both are user tunable. Gives you roughly the same, obviously main thing is control A/F ratios, i saw la_FX post on +2 timing. Osiris has tq management setup for automatics and can extend rev limits, a piggyback shouldn't able to do that.

At the end of the day if 20hp can be had from either one i'm sure either would he no problems getting least 16hp of the 20hp. Reading around the Z/G boards.

what is aarons's email? Aaron@unichip.com ?

^Nice one Andrew!
I too am going to go unichip, eventually. Since so many here have had great success with it, the choice for me is obvious. The 5 map control that Ed has is pretty freak'n sweet too. Add a wideband, weld a bung, whew Think I need a second job, lol...
Didn't know a g35x had a VK45de powerplant :wink (2):

Sorry to get off topic here guys...
^That's pretty sweet, reminds me of the SLP camaro SS I had before the FX45. Truthfully it sounds just like it. Full kooks exhaust + LT headers and a 200shot:wink (2):

Anyone can put a lsx in a shell if that's what they're into. I would perfer a turbo 2jz s2000 if I wanted a shell swap.
