Rear License plate problem - need a quick fix

I bought my car and one of the holes that you screw the license plate into had a screw broke inside of it and it was completely rusted inside the grommet. I had to drill the entire grommet out but now i dont know what to use to put back in the hole now because the dealer doesnt have anything to help me out and all i can find is square grommets that fit well but when i try to screw the screw in the grommet just spins and spins. I tried the well nut thing and that didnt work at all. Right now i just have a screw and nut holding it on but i dont want to have to use a nut incase i have to take the license plate off, i dont want to have to always take the inside trim off because that is s PIA. Any idea?

Here is a pic, the driver side hole is what i need to fix

I tried these square grommets - they fit great but they just spin and spin

Are you saying that the screw spins in the grommet or that the grommet spins in the hole?

Maybe a touch of silicone to hold the grommet in place? Or a larger screw to bite into the grommet?

^perfect answer there!
You'll have better luck with metal threaded inserts rather than plastic grommets. There are loads of them available - press in, locking, threaded, compression . . .

I had the same issue and I just ended up getting some plastic screws and they have been working real good ever since.
