Rear Ended - Bumper Repair/Replacement?

Hi folks,

Just got rear ended this morning, low speed, car behind me was following too close in adverse conditions and couldn't stop in time. It looks like the black polyurethane bumper took all the damage, resulting in a few scuff marks and a couple of chips. The other car only had a damage license plate and the plate holder. OBDII returned no fault codes and all sensors are reading normal, but I'll have a mechanic check the rest of the chassis out later this week to make sure.

My question is - do you guys have experience with repairing or replacing just the black plastic portion? From the Infiniti site it looks like the rear bumper comes as one fascia, part number HEM22-1CA0H, lookup code 85050, $554 from OEM. I'd prefer not to go through insurance, and it seems silly to replace the whole bumper just for a few scuffs, especially when the alignment to the fenders are still perfect and the painted regions are untouched.

Thanks in advance.

I had something very similar, there was a softball sized indent on the corner and the reflector was cracked. Bodyshop was able to heat the black portion and pop it back out and the reflector replaced. Looks good as new. I didn't have any nicks however.

Thanks for the info Pinstripe.

Just got the opportunity to look under the car... and well crap, there's definitely structural damage. Guess there's no choice but to go through insurance...
