Have any of you thought about cutting the lower bumper plastic piece and adding a mesh of some sort? I was looking under there and it seems like it would be nice for air to escape past the muffler through the lower plastic piece.

I have that piece... I just cleaned it today. I'm pretty damn sure you have that piece as well. :6wink:

Yeah it does seem like it would be a pocket of drag underneath... I don't think I'd want vents visible from the back though, not sure how clean that'd look.

Maybe block off the front of this space instead? Divert air underneath it instead of through it? If you do end up doing it, please take pictures from the back from different levels to see how visible it is... I can clearly see the logic behind it though and yeah it seems like a good idea, I just don't know how aesthetically pleasing it would be :ooh:

Btw, is that a Stillen exhaust?

Looks hot.. It looks like a 98 S4.

Don't think that there might be that much of a benefit to have this done. Esthetically it migh look good to show off your exhaust..

Hmmm?

I got a few things in mind if & when I ever do get around to building custom bumpers that would open this area up... that rear area is like a mini parachute in a way, I'm sure it catches some air, but I don't see any tasteful way of doing much with the stock bumper really...

I was thinking the rear section be cut out and a mesh placed behind it. I know there are some supports there, so a continuous piece would be harder to do. I think since its in horizontal location, you can't see much mesh. Shouldn't be that hard to do, again I can do it when time frees ups from work/wife .

how about something like this would be better....

ok so here is what i'm thinking..... You are asking about the rear bumper but yet the pic is of the shield for the gas tank.

As for the rear bumper i would have to agree that it would be nice and while your at it make a bigger cut out for dual tips on each side.

As for the shield that you showed the pic for. Not worth that underneath section to be played with. I don't think there is really that much drag on that area.
