Hey guys, going through tough times with the FX this past and present year..
Been talking to Mtn Fx (greatly appreciate his support), due to sloppy steering, poor handling, wobble, brake shudder. I inspected the rack and found 2 leaks, from the tension adj bolt and right boot( tablespoon amount of possible P/S fluid).. If i recall, i read a post on the org, chedman had a similiar issue with bolt leaking or oil around it..

Also i hear thia grinding sometimes when braking and steering wheel slightly tilted, clunk while reversing i would hear clunk when brakes applied and it sounded from the rack and pinion area..

Should i buy one of those stop leaks to swell the seals or it would possibly damage the pump?
Any feedback on this issue is greatly appreciated guys

Thanks

that is tough one, I see those working for radiator and other stuff but not sure if that would damage the pump itself, have you checked ebay for a used one or possibly a brand new one????

i was actually thinking of adding the stop leak, then replacing the rack, remanufactured..

I am guessing the stop leak is for the pump and then you want to replace the rack.. if you can find the leak it might as simple as a drain replace the oring and then probably a new remanufactured rack.. good luck

From where the leak was described it looks to be the Rack oil Seal Item #13.
If thats the case this seal would have to be done in a shop. It's pretty involved and specialty tools are required.

Hey guys, the rack bolt that most of you probably tightened, can that bolt be removed? because i tryed to remove it and it justs get tight. It gets tight either direction, wondering if thats one of those bolts that stay in between loose and tight..

So today i went to check my outter tie rods and found my left side boot is out of place, last time someone checked my rack out was 5 months ago. I know once you take those clamps off you will need to buy new ones or zip tie it. So i checked for looseness, held the tire 9 and 3 oclock and heard a water sound. When i moved the steering wheel or the tire left and right the sound came directly inside the rack. Sounds like water or something might off gone inside, and i assume because the boot was not secured in place water might off went it.
Do you guys think its possible for water to go in from the inner tie rod joint threw the rack/?

The steering gear linkage (partno.49001) has had different partnumbers throughout the production years 2003-2008. Has anyone tried to replace it and would a 2003 steering linkage fit into a 2007 fx
case
