I'm getting ready to purchase the H8 HID fog light conversion from ebay. I just can't believe how cheap these units have gotten. Question: when the bulbs go out, can you purchase any of the replacement bulbs offered? Meaning are the connectors universal or proprietary for different kits?

I've been trying to figure that out from reading different kits on ebay, but can't find a definitive answer. I've seen bulbs for sale on ebay that state it'll fit any aftermarket, as long as the ballast has an amp connector. I haven't read any kit for sale that states the bulb connectors are universal. I just want to make sure when the time comes, I have a wide selection of vendors to purchase the bulbs from.

I know what you mean Doc. Perhaps I should put it this way. From what I've seen on ebay, it looks as if the bulbs come with wiring attached to them. Perhaps you guys who have bought them can confirm this. Are you able to remove just the bulb when replacing them? Or are the wires permanently connected to the bulbs? If that's the case, then the replacement bulbs must come with wires already connected to the bulbs. What I'm wondering is, are the connectors on the attached wires universal? Hope this is clearer.

Ah, now I know what you mean. I have experienced that different manufacturers do them slightly different and it is NOT universal. Some of the male and female connectors are switched around from the bulb to the ballast and vice versa. This seems to be the case even among the same brands but different model years. So to answer your question is NO it is not all universal.
