Purple-Black Paint

Hey guys I bought my 2004 Infiniti fx35 a few months ago and noticed that the rear and front bumper have a purple tinge to them compared to the rest of the car. I know that this is due to a respray but I think only the clear is causing this since a very small spot peeled and the normal black was underneath. I am just wondering if I polish the car will this take out most of the purpling or am I going to eventually need a respray? Just thinking the polish may help since the purple could be on the surface.

Looks like a cheap black paint to me.

Yeah, sadly I think this was a poorly done repair. I may still try to polish to see if it helps at all but if not I will eventually respray. Odd thing was is that there was nothing in the car fax about the respray so I sorta figure a botch job. Oh well.

It does look like a cheaper paint/clear finish to me too. You can certain try a polish on it and see what happens. You don't have much to lose, but like every product says, "Test in a small, inconspicuous area first." :rotfl:

Thanks everybody for the responses. I may wet sand and polish to take out some of the hazyness and bring some luster. Just want it to all match best I can.

Accidents and repairs don't always come up on carfax. I had an accident back in 2010 and up to this day my carfax still shows up as 0 accidents. My score is 93.

Yuck... yeah I'd try a wet sand. Polish won't do much. It does look like crappy black paint though.

When I first saw the thread title I thought "oh that might look interesting," but then I realized it wasn't intentional lol... there's plenty of orange peel on that repainted surface too, I personally wouldn't even bother with wet sanding and shell out the ~$350 or so to respray properly.

Yeah, I agree. I mean I got the car for a good price so not too pissed but it is something that really annoys me. Im gonna wet sand since I have the polish and rotary so in the meantime until I shell out the cash to get it repainted it won't have the orange peel at least. What price do you guys think I would be looking at to get the front bumper, rear bumper and rear right quarter repainted? Appreciate all of the input though guys!

When I read the title at first, I thought you were going towards this:

Did you take it to a reliable body shop when you re-spray it? To me it looks like they use some cheap paint, the color changes when you park directly under the sun. Polishing is not going to help a lot but definitely give a try.

Sorry for late reply, but I bought the car like this from a Honda dealership. Not sure if they did it or what, but it is only bad when in direct sun as you stated. It didn't seem like a big deal before I bought it, nor is it now but just an annoyance that gets at me when the sun hits it right. I tried some wet sanding and polishing and it got rid of the horrible orange peel at least but the purple is still there.
