Powersteering bolt leak?

Guys, I was about to make a slight adjustment to the 22mm bolt for tension to the powersteering.
When I got under the car I noticed that it was gummed up with fluid? (thick, gummy, wiped off with a towel)
It was coming from the 22mm bolt area so I'm guessing the seal inside it failed. Is it time for a new rack or is this seal/area replaceable?

I'm not losing any fluid noticeably under the hood and it feels fine. Currently just above 100k miles and I'm running Valvoline Maxlife fluid w/stop leak the last 10k miles.

:at-wits-end: Just replaced both valve covers, replaced spark plugs, ordered new radiator hoses and drive belts, replaced 3 door locks..

Umm mine is leaking too! Don't quote me on this but I don't think that bolt is designed to be taken out! I remember seeing in a post somewhere that it wasn't a good idea to do so, hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in!

yah i remember Mtn Fx mentioning this, but due our FX's having poor racks i dont think its gna matter especially if you have high mileage. Taking the bolt out and putting it back in didnt make things worse. It actually helped to stop the leak by cleaning he surfaces inner part and bolt

So there isn't a seal behind the bolt it's just a spring. If I back out the screw a tiny bit and use a tiny bit RTV only on the threads, maybe it'll seal it from the funky leak? lol

NRG universal: [Dead Link Removed]. I think the volume is to little. Have been searching on line but only issues i could fine were powersteering cooler related and some vent....but none how to solve it. Don't want to go to far of topic here guys but as i read this maybe any of you have some experiance with this.

How does the size compare to the Weapon R ones some others have run? I haven't heard of issues with those. The fluid does expand and the volume does change some depending on what the pump is using so I'd guess you would need some excess capacity in the tank. I've had a similar issue on my BMW with the OEM tank when I filled the fluid up to the line. It should be within spec, but it would still overflow sometimes. Only solution was to fill it less. But if you're already running a smaller tank, filling it up less probably isn't a good solution.

The thing is the level/baffle is kinda high.....if the fluid is below that baffle the pump starts whining but above it almost seems like there is no additional room for the fluid to expand...... i did some 350Z search and read something about venting as well but nrg has that as well. Cannot find realy good alternatives. A client of mine runs the weapon r and we have some circuit sports version as well but want to trouble shoot it First before throwing money at it again without knowing if it 'll help.

Hi Ray, I have had the same prob...My AM power steering res was also spitting out fluid..went all over the tank and the upper protection engine cover...Apparently there is a tiny hole in the middle of the cap which i never noticed...My mechanic saw it and he drained a little fluid yesterday...No whinning noises as yet..Will drive tomorrow and check...The PS oil stinks as well..

I know these reservoirs have breather holes.......but what was the case with your hole then.....should it have been open.....or closed ?? What did your mechanic do exactly ??

Hi Ray, He just drained a little more PS fluid..He said there was 2 much..The fluid is now below the
baffle inside...forgot to check after i drove today...Will check Tomorrow and see if any fluid has come out.
