power steering pump

Has anyone had problems with this before and have they replaced the pump? What were some of the symptoms?

I got this weird noise coming from the passenger side engine bay. The noise seems to be coming from the drive belts on that side and it doesn't happen all the time either. Seems like it's the pulley on the power steering pump or alternator making a whiny squeaky noise. I was scared it was the engine but the performance is the same, oil level is good, temp is good. I checked the tranny fluid it's good and I see no difference in shifting. I don't know what else it could be.

today I will check if there is bubbles in the power steering fluid to see if there is air in the system and I will try and make a video of the noise so I can show you guys what I mean.

Anyone else have any ideas?
 
Have you tried turning the steering wheel side to side with the car on? That will work the pump and may cause the noise. If it gets louder when you're doing that, it could be the pump. Could just be a loose belt in general.
 
ive had, it started off making my steering wheel feel weird like getting really loose and hard. Then it got really hard, it was spraying/leaking from the seal behind the pulley,and air in the reservoir. I didnt go aftermarket not got a brand new OE. I wnt to a local nissan/infinit wreck yard bought a used one, its been a year without any issuees
 
I will try it all out today, I was sick yesterday so couldn't mess with it. I don't feel anything different when I am turning the steering wheel tho, and the noise comes and goes despite the turning of the wheel. I will try and get a video today.

How hard is it to replace the pump if in fact that's what it is?
 
not hard at all, i replaced mine with the pulley pressed on the pump. Not hard take 2 bolts (i believe 14mm) on the pump itself through the pulley, then the high pressure line again (i believe it 17 mm), and one open end wrench type of metal line i think and thats it
 
I had/have issue with mine......it whines also and my alloy reservoir leaks quit some......as if there is too much pressure and it spits out the fuid or boils over. Anyways it is different the the Z's pump and trough the official infiniti dealer here in the netherlands pricing was crazy. So i decided to order an overhaul kit and try that out first. Wasn't that hard and it was already out of the car due to my engine built. Now just have to wait if it is Ok when i put everything back in the car again.
