Photoshoot of my QX70S

Late reply, but I am happy with the rotors and brakes overall. Realistically, slots and drills are just for looks on these cars. The calipers and fluid give a nice, consistent feel. The pads are also quite nice - except for some very annoying cold squeal when first driving away. Silent after that, but it's definitely annoying and embarrassing for a few seconds when it's cold. I've tried to re-bed them, but it doesn't go away. Considering Centric Posi-Quiet's but I am not sure that'll fix it, since these Stoptech Street pads are pretty mild.

Pads can make a huge difference in sound or none. 1st gen stock was horrible. There were multiple TSBs for it.
Always when cold in reverse. It could wake the entire block

Yes!! So bad. Were pads the fix? I’m surprised the ST streets do this, though. I may get the Posi’s or Akebono ceramics then. Ugh.

Yes they were. But I was melting the stock fronts, & eventually swap'd to the Akebonos. I run ProjectMU pads on this setup

Do not go with Akebono pads with Akebono calipers. This combination squeals like crazies when they're cold. I'm experiencing this right now. I hated this combo.
Now Akebono with standard calipers is a good combo. Love the pads... very low dust and good bite.

Oh, great, I just bought Akebono pads to go with my shiny new Akebono calipers:coffee:, which pads can you recommend? (btw, I don't like dust!) thanks!

The Akebono pad and caliper combo was my first. I have been using Hawk pads on the BBK on my other FXes. I'm also looking for recommendation :).

Ok, thanks, I'll put them on and see(hear) how bad it is...... it seems GTO is very happy with his projectMU pads with the Akebono calipers? don't know if thats an option over here

Well crap! Was about to order the ProACTs and now not sure what to do. Seems crazy the factory Akebono brake kit cannot be made silent. It's driving me (and my wife) insane and this brake upgrade is feeling like less of an upgrade.

I had the same annoying brake squealing issues until I went with ST ceramic pads and slot/drilled rotors. I believe the dust trapped between the rotor and pads contributed to most of the squealing I was hearing so the slot/drilled rotors keeps the dust away. For the last 3 yrs, I’ve had no squealing with this setup and the calipers and wheels stay dust free.

Running with the Akebono calipers + pads for a week now........ I have absolutely zero squeaking! don't hear a thing cold, hot, reverse or forward :). Oh yeah, they stop like crazy too! :sneaky:

The cold reverse squeal is unacceptable. The ST drilled rotors and ST street pads are otherwise great, but they squeal like a pig when cold in reverse. I cannot back out of my driveway without announcing it to and annoying all of my neighbors.
Id change pads if I knew that would fix it but I’m incredulous since these are street pads and silent on every other application and in forward gear.
Is there anything to do with shims or grease? Searching other forums shows other Infiniti’s suffering the same but no consensus on the fix.
Thanks!

Also had the wheels PC’d silver, very happy with them:

I decided to go with the Centric Premium Commuter Brake Kit which includes the Posi-Quiet Ceramic Brake Pads. Nothing fancy, but they're low dust & look great, plus I haven't had any issues with squeals. Not to mention, I found the entire kit for less than $300 back in November :).
