Painting Stock Wheels?

Car
2015 QX70 RWD 3.7L V6
Name
Jon
Has anyone painted or powder-coated their QX70 stock wheels? I have the base-stock wheels on my 2015 QX70, but don't like the silver coating; would much prefer a darker chrome, such as Hyper or even black.

If you have, can you post pixs and what you did to achieve a more preferred color?

Powder coating is nice but you'll probably just want to paint your rims... That way to can paint match the center caps... Can't powdercoat plastic, so the center caps always look a little off...

Thanks, DatMan! I've been watching a lot of Pasti Dip vs Autodip vs Rustoleum Peel Coat+ vs Wrapping, etc; whew! So much to research and consider...
However, I do believe I am leaning toward painting my calipers versus getting covers to achieve the look, but of course, that defeats the purpose of reducing break-dust...So much to learn....

Now you're talking about calipers? Did you look at that link I posted on one of your threads about the brake upgrade? The STOPTECH kit comes with carbon fiber brake pads which are supposedly less dust than metal composite, but quieter and good bite... So the best of both worlds (ceramic vs. metal)...

Lol; I'm talking about a lot, and not doing much so far. Lots of ideas; jumping all over the place. Thanks for the reminder!

I have powercoated mine shiny black. The original silver wheels were pretty scratched up and needed to be refiinished anyway. I was really nervous about the black wheels since my car is already black but it turned out pretty nice.

My wheels came powder coated. The 21 inch are heavy enough. These things are freaking bricks. Looks nice but suffering from bad gas mileage and harsher bumps from the unsprung weight

Agree they weight a TON and ride is so firm ...
My suffer was one week only
Put back my 18" powder coated black wheels
Now i am happy :)

The main reason for a FX or QX being slower than their cousins the G, Z and Q is the weight and size of the wheels and tires on the FX/QX compared to the cars. Ride quality is better as well with less weight.

I painted mine two years ago. Bodyshop. Wet sand, gloss black then clear coat. Came out awesome. Still looks awesome.

Huge difference. I have the same body/trim color. I am going to paint my wheels black too, plus black out the front grill and some trim.

Yes, I would definitely do it again. Makes the car look a lot better. I also replaced the front grill with the 2017 blacked out limited one. Came out nice too.
