One Headlight out, One Flickering

All...
I've been reading the forums about headlight... I have a 05 FX35, my drivers side headlight is out, and I went to the dealership to have it replace, they quoted me $800 for one headlight! I couldn't believe it. I have read that the
D2S: Morimoto 5Five (50w) - 6000K would work fine in my FX. But my question is, will I need to change the ballast too and everything else, or just the bulb? Also, where can I find a diagram for this? I am unable to locate my owners manual.

I know that this is a newbie question.... I apologize to the pros and vets

50w is too high. Get the D2S 35w bulbs.

First thing try some contact cleaner on the base and the stock bulb. If it still flickers then replace the bulbs. If after replacing the bulbs it still flickers, you can find stock ballasts and ignitors on ebay.

Thanks for the advise "toy4x".... but I have never even popped the hood on my FX... if it is the ballast and ignitors.... where can i find a diagram on replacing those?

search headlight removal and you should be able to find DIY on how to remove and replace bulbs.
and also pics to show you step by step .... good luck

I recently posted about the Moriomoto 50w 6000k. I bought them and installed them, and they flickered right from the start. Most likely you will have the same problem since you have a 2005. I had to send them back, and now I am going to end up losing money due to the restocking fee. I believe the reason is because the ballasts are too weak to handle to bulb, so you can always take the route of aftermarket ballasts, but that will just add another electrical component to your vehicle and might make for a bigger pain. If you want new bulbs, the Osram CBI 5000K D2S HID Bulbs might be a good option becuase they are about as close as you will get to the OEM and will work with the stock ballasts. But, those will cost you $200 for a pair. Hope this helps, and don't make the same mistake I did!

Oh WOW! so the "D2S: Morimoto 5Five (35w) - 6000K" is not a good option in my 2005 FX35! THAT SUCKS! I've been driving around with one headlight for months, trying to figure out if I was going to give the dealership $800 for to fix one headlight. So the "Osram CBI 5000K D2S HID Bulbs" is the best option if I have STOCK headlight parts?

I didn't know you bought the 50W Moris D2S!

I think so, or you can just get the Phillips D2S 4300K, which is what the actual OEM Infiniti bulbs are. Those run about the same price as the Osram, but at least the Osram are 5000k, which I think are a little nicer. Plus the Osram are about the same quality as the Phillips. If you are looking for the convenience, you can get the Phillips D2S 4300K from Autozone for $100 per bulb.

FYI- some people seem to be okay using the Morimoto 6000k, but if you have a flickering problem, then your ballasts may be weak, and I wouldn't try them.

Yeah I did Andy, and they didn't work! haha. I just shipped them back yesterday :/

Alex, I'm pretty sure Andrew and others are using the 35W! Why not get them to swap to 35W instead. The 35W Moris 6000K still very nice output.

Ha, yeah. I think we were all assuming 35W. You're really pushing the factory ballasts trying to run 50W.

Everyone.... THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
I'm ordering the "D2S: Morimoto 5Five (35w) - 6000K".... My FX will not look like a pirate with one eye at night!
Cool!

You do know they also offer D2S Morimoto 35W 5000K, same price. I had order 3 sets and installed 2 sets.

I just had a similar problem to this old thread today so i ordered two d2s philips 6000k bulbs for my qx70 with adaptive lightning wich said 85v 35w 85122wx on them just like the originals
but once i installed them the drivers side headlight would flicker and woudnt go on after a couple of tries it finally went on, then after that it would go on and off and woudnt do it until i
waited like 5 mins to turn them on again and the drivers side woudnt come back on again!, i tried swapping the
bulbs from side to side same thing!!! i thought to myself.... ballast? so i put the originals back in and now everything works fine!

i contacted the seller and he told me that sometimes
it has to be programed by the infiniti dealer for new bulbs with different electrical impedance, i dont understand... how the heck you program a ballast thats already designed to work out of 12volts...
