On board computer

After using Magellan 1700 in overhead console for over a year, I decided to move OEM screen to the overhead console and install tablet computer in it's place.

My first choice was iPad but center console is a bit to small to host ipad without major modification. I end up using Viewsonic viewpad 7 running android.

Installation was relatevly easy and I'm quite happy with outcome.

OEM screen is Passive-matrix LCD so you need to play with brightness and contrast to get decent quality from that angle, but after all is OK.

I'm not sure if you want to DIY. it involves removing OEM screen from it's casing, taking it apart and fabricating custom housing. I'll rate this mod "advanced".

it is Sygic NA (http://www.sygic.com/en/android:buy-now) GPS. IMHO it is the best GPS for android (after trying Navigon and Garmin). It comes with NA maps preloaded (you don't need to download them while traveling), cool UI, 3D buildings and Landmarks 3D renderings.

If your android is rooted you can always try before you buy.

How hard is it to move the stock screen up there? Do you need to buy and extender? Would love DIY for it i have an 04 with tech package would this screen fit up there?

This is the most ridiculous mod that I have seen to date on the 2nd gen. Okay, the FX with the airbag suspension that sits on the ground when parked is the most ridiculous, but this is a close second. It looks so clean that it could be factory! Awesome job man, mad props.

Hey szj2020, how is the Veiwsonic tablet working out? I plan to do install a tablet into mine car and I have a couple of questions. How are you dealing with the power button. How do you access it.
