Oil will go in the crank case and aerate it and become foamy; and difficult to filter. This causes damage to various engine parts. I would just drain a little out and recheck levels.
Next time just buy the 5 quart jug makes it simple

Remember when checking oil level heat the car up to normal operating temperature. Turn it off and wait 15 minutes for it to drain back into the pan then check the level on the dipstick. It should be between hi and low
