O2 sensor issue ?

Soooo .... my '08 EX 35 is showing a check engine light. I had a friend of mine check the code on his computer and its showing an O2 sensor issue. My ride has 68k miles and i'm not sure if this will be covered under warranty.... ( i threw a post about this on the warranty section, not sure if it belongs there so i'm posting on here also ) - My question is, has anyone had any issues with the O2 sensor this early on??
:bulgy-eyes:
I do get a sputter every once in a while when i step on the gas and a weird idle at times also ... nothing is consistent, so i'm not sure what to do. My buddy suggested i get a fuel injection cleaner and see if that helps... ???

Would love some input since i might be shelling out some money to get this fixed :at-wits-end: ...
Thank you!

If its showing an O2 sensor code the first thing would be to replace the O2 sensor. What's the code number you got? Reason I ask is because you need to know which O2 sensor it is either bank 1 or bank 2 which refers to which side of the engine.

if you still have your factory warranty it should be covered though.

If your also having idle issues I would clean both throttle bodies since your at 68K miles. It's a common issue on these cars. Dirty throttle bodies ruin the idle and throttle response.

Thanks for the prompt reply :)
I cleaned the throttle body (both sides) when i first got the car at around 50k, but i can clean it again and go from there.

The code on the sensor is P2AO3 Circuit Range Performance - there's not much of a description since my buddy has a bootleg version of the reader program thing.

the factory warranty i believe expired at 60k

Oxygen sensors are 4yr/60k-mi.

HOW LONG IS THE WARRANTY
This warranty is for 4 years or 60,000 miles, whichever
occurs first. The warranty begins the date the vehicle is
delivered to the first retail buyer or put into use, which-
ever is earlier. Additionally, the engine control
module/onboard diagnostic device and catalytic con-
verter(s) listed below and indicated by an “
” under the
caption “Warranty Parts List” are covered for 8 years or
80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

P2A03

P2A03- Air Fuel Ratio Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2 Sensor 1

Possible causes
- Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1
- Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted
- Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Fuel pressure
- Fuel injector
- Intake air leaks

First thing I would do then since its the easiest and cheapest is to check the intake for any leaks. Adjust and tighten some screws.

next it wouldn't hurt to disconnect the 02 sensor on bank 2 and clean the contacts with some electric contact cleaner and reconnect. Also check for any tearing or fraying of the wire harness attached to the o2 sensor on bank 2.

after all that reset the ses light and drive it around for a week. If it comes back just replace the o2 sensor on bank 2.

At 68K, it's possible the sensor is done. I've seen them go out earlier than that. As he said, check connections and wires. If that looks good, just swap out the sensor. It's not that hard, and the sensors aren't that expensive. It will likely fix your idle issue and hesitation. The O2 sensor has an effect on all of that, especially since this is the pre-cat sensor. Your A/F ratios are based on the readings. I've had O2 sensors go, and misfires/hesitation/rough idle were all symptoms. As soon as I replaced the sensor, all of it went away.

awesome ... thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it! ...
Now, i'm a hands on kinda guy - where would this bank2 Sensor 1 exactly be located ? I haven't had much experience with Nissans, all my other cars have been GM. I know its usually a witch hunt trying to find an O2 sensor in GM cars, so i haven't had any exerience with them.

I did go and clean the throttle body yesterday on both sides, but it didn't have any effect on the sensor yet. I also added a fuel injection cleaner to the tank and got premium to see if whatever else is in there could burn off ...
The position on the sensor would be awesome if anyone knows tho :)
thank you guys for the feedback!

Should be right in front of the catalytic convertor. You're looking for the pre-cat one. I believe you have to access from under the car.

first thing i would do, i would ck the bank 2 cat for crack, i've seen couple of this before, usually the crack can be found where the bracket for both side cat that is mounted on the trans. I would like you to check where the bracket is bolted to. a small L shape welled on to cat. u need a flash light for this. If you see a black or smoke marks around the welled part, then you found your problem. GOODLUCK!

Hey guys....after I put gas in my car I got the CEL. Thought it was the gas cap...so tightened and drove for a few days but didn't go away. Took it to check the code and it came out P0131.
They said it's an O2 sensor...anyone have any ideas what it might be??

Yeah, I would clear the code if it the first time it show up. If the same code come back, then I would start the troubleshooting and/or replace the sensor.
