NOOBIE Winter Tire Question

That size is not recommended due to the radius of the tire is too small. 235/60R18 is 29.10 inches, the stock 265/50/20 is 30.43 inches. Your speedometer said you're traveling at 60 mph, but in reality, you're going at about 63 mph.

I would as everyone else said stay as close to OEM tire diameter.

That being said, if you can get 235/60/18 for a good price -- why not? The narrower tire is actually better to cut into the snow as a wider tire has more chance of "floating" on top.

That being said, Blizzak's are 1/2 high-tech compound and 1/2 standard winter compound. Check the thread and how deep it is to a brand new blizzak (you can get specs on-line. If the thread depth isn't good, I'd just get new tires.

I have an 07 FX 45 and have been offered a set of Blizzak 235/60R18 tires. Very good price and condition. Is 235 too narrow for an FX 45?

Thanks.

I thought it was the other way around. Smaller tires will be spinning faster so your speedometer will show 63mph but you're actually going 60mph. Either way, I stick with OEM size as well.

My bad. I worded wrong. Smaller tire rotate more per mile, so the speedometer 60 mph your actual speed is 57 mph. Or if you want to travel at 60 mph, you have to speed up to 63 mph on the odometer .

Too small or too large tire radius will lead to wrong speedometer reading

for the winter it would work, less rubber. But not recommended during summer. If you can go with 255 instead
