Noobie checking in

Hi all,

Just got my 2003 RED FX 35 today, 60K miles fully loaded (DVD, NAvi, 20inch, BOSE, sunroof...anything else we are missing? :P)

Just want to say hi! We started with a Mini, then Saab 95, then TL Type S and now FX 35, in just past 6 months! (long story, PM me if you are that bored and want to know)

Anyways, Just want to check with you seasoned members for a couple things:

1. I have 20 inch on my car now which I don't like (too bumpy for my 2 months old son) and I am trying to get rid of them. But before I do that I want to know if the stock 18s are also bumpy or not? To make things simple maybe I will just find someone with 18s that's willing to trade with my 20s, but i might go even smaller if you guys think 18s are still very bumpy for new borns.

2. The previous owner also gave me a set of 17s snow tire (blizzak), which I am also thinking about getting rid of because...well don't we have AWD? Are there any other cars/SUV that have the same offset (40mm?) and bolt (5X114) as our car? Maybe I will just post a FS on those car forums.

Going to get my 60K done tomorrow so my mind can be at ease since my wife is going to drive this car mostly. I have a mildly modified WRX/Saab 92X as a DD, and i will post up pix of our FX and 92X shortly.

Holler back!

I would just keep your 20's and change out the shocks/struts for some kyb's and throw on some H&R's, that should help with the bumpyness....especially since you are over 50k miles.

Our fx's have a pretty stiff suspension from stock..

Welcome to :iS:

Plus, being an '03 he supposedly has the stiffest of the years.

Don't plan to spend money on any mods on FX - my 92X/WRX is where my mod bug consumes all the money... :P

Would the other way to go about is to trade for a 04+ suspension kits?

would anyone want 03 over 04+? (noob here!)

I wouldn't really call the KYB's a mod since they are a stock equivalent, just cheaper (plus you are over 50k). Also many have said that the H&R's ride better than stock.

What year is your 92x? 2005(2.0) 2006(2.5)? I just recently sold my 2007 WRX Wagon.

fxlr8 - thanks for the response.

what's the significance of 50K+ you kept mention it and I wonder if there is anything I need to know?

KYBs are going to cost some money....I guess i will still try to trade for 18inch stockers...

it's a 2005 with 2.0T. It's sitting on Cobb Stg 2 with some other goodies - it's a blast to drive (but it's no Sti or EVO) and when you get it for less than $20K brand new back in 05 (GM fire sale) - GM just paid me to mod the car for free

50k is reference to your milage.....your oem set is probably done or close to done.

Welcome to IS.

getting H&Rs will SOFTEN the ride!. Also like the wise men said above.... changing the KYB shocks will help (they are not expensive at all ~$200)

*make sure you install the baby car seat correctly... some here suggest going to the local fire station for free help.

* your in NJ and it snows .... so the Blizzacks will be good even w/o AWD

do you have a "SNOW" button
do you have laser cruise control
also I dont think the 03s have the iKey

Oops I posted on the wrong thread. Hey I have a set of 18"s I just got new Yokohama tires cause I being pressing on the gas too hard and my rear tires are gone.. I got the Yokohama tires on Saturday but I haven't had a chance to install them. I'm stationed in MD but I'm from NYC.. Let me know if you are interested. Also as I said before I just got new tires, how are the tires on those 20"s.. I woulnd want to have to pay for another set of tires.. They are quite spencive for our FXes.

I see...thanks.

ikey is keeping key in your pocket the whole time. also they will be a button to push on the front door handles (and hatch) to unlock. I dont think they came out with this for your year.

no matter what you have a awesome ride. . . and a rare color
