Hello to all,

I'm new to this Forum and was hoping to get some advice. I have an 06 FX35 AWD that has been the best car I've ever owned hands down. Two days ago I was hearing what sounded like a belt tensioner rattling and I didn't pay much attn as the car was running perfect and temp was fine. I was cruising down the road and suddenly heard a louder belt noise and the temp gauge started to rise quick. No limp mode or check engine light. I pulled over immediately and had it towed to dealer. Initial assessment was a belt issue or tension idler. I took my loaner and waited for a call which I received with the news it was a blown head gasket with an estimate of 4K. I'm just as blown away as my alleged head gasket. Typically you would see some type of issue like overheating Antifreeze leaks, engine oil leaking, smoke something. These motors are known to be bullet proof. It has 135K on it but still very surprised. Does anyone have any info or history with gasket issues. The dealer suggests replacing the entire engine with a used one.

Just bummin hard. I love that car.

Any info from the staff or otherwise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and looking forward to chatting with other appreciative owners of FX's.

Sincerely,

Paul R. Moore

This doesn't sound right. Not at 135K....did you do normal maintenance and take care of her?? I would look for a shop around you that knows the 350z, G35s, anyone
that has experience with the VQ motor and tow it there for a second opinion. There are plenty of shops that see this motor...I would def take it somewhere
else first and see what they say. Many members here have had more mileage than you and have done nothing but routine maintenance.

Do you know what kind of diagnostics did the dealer do? Compression and leakdown test? That should the first tests they do to confirm a blown head gasket. Ask the dealer if they did it or bring it to another shop that can do those tests for you and give some numbers.
