Hi guys I am a new owner to a used but mint 2003 FX45. So obviously the fist thin I did is register in a forum. I would love to learn about the best practices for fuel efficiency and so on.
Thanks
1) Make sure your air filter is clean, I check it every other oil change.
2) Switch to a K&N or other high flow air filter, keep OEM stock box.
3) Switch to a lighter weight motor oil, appropriate for your area (i.e. temperatures). If you are already on synthetic, go with Mobil 1 0W-20 or 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy. If you are on conventional oil (i.e. dino oil), if you have higher miles, stay with it or else you might have some oil leaks when switching. But you can find a lighter/thinner motor oil for conventional too.
4) See a red light? Foot off the accelerator.
5) Don't carry around extra cargo. If you have AAA or other towing service with your car insurance, get remove your spare tire and tools and put in your garage. I think it's almost a 100 lb savings.
6) Try to use 93 octane fuel. I personally found it to be more efficient, but at a cost of being more expensive. For me, it is no more expensive than 91 octane in my area.
7) Keep your oil changes regular.
8) Over inflate your tires a few PSi all around. Try out 38 PSI cold, or 40 PSI warm (i.e. after driving). Rougher ride, but better fuel economy.
9) Accelerate slow.
10) Dropping your car will make it become more aerodynamic, but the savings really isn't worth the cost of doing so, unless you were going to drop the car anyways (i.e. H&R springs).
