New owner of 2007 Infiniti FX35 RWD, 162k miles--ex-G35 coupe owner

Car
2007 Infiniti FX35
Name
Koi
I came to this car from a beloved G35 coupe that I tracked and modded with so much TLC. Then I was hit by a drunk driver, and sadly, the car was so damaged that it wasn't worth repairing. :(

I hope to keep the FX for as long as possible since I'm still in love with this engine family, and they just don't make them like this anymore (and the FX is a bit more practical than the G). I bought the FX with 145k miles about 1.5 years ago. So far have had 2 engine misfires (replaced 2 coils, spark plugs, about to do leaking valve covers on both sides) and also just replaced the passenger side cat (which had failed due to the misfires). Planning on going to Stoptech slotted rotors, sport pads, and stainless brake lines. My rear control arm bushings appear to be shot, and while looking into suspension mods for the FX, I am just shocked to learn that there are basically only 4 options--stock (KYB) struts/shocks + H&R or Eibach springs, or Megan or BC coilovers. That is so crazy! Do not many people try to mod the suspension of the FX? There were SO many options with the G!

Hi bro.. I got a custom coil over kit in Taiwan where I live but best option are the BC for the FX.. If u need engine strut braces, feel free to hit me up. Welcome to the scene!

Thanks for the welcome! And I'm a girl, lol. Will definitely let you know if I decide to go with strut braces! Thanks for the opinion about the coilovers! Much appreciated. That's really cool that you have a custom coilover kit! Did someone fabricate the whole thing just for your car, or did they modify an existing set to fit?

HI Ma'am! No bro.. Lol.. I have a 450+supercharged FX.. Coil overs were custom done for my FX back in 2007..
Havent leaked or changed them up to now.. Hehe... Like I said here in Taiwan there are loads of coilover kits for the FX.. BC is popular with many.. Gekco racing is another company selling a quality kit for the FX. Seemarch Gecko Racing and have a butchers!
What mods do u want to do. I have extra parts like silicone radiator hoses, custom CAI.. HMU on FB or IG. Sohail Roshan

Haha no worries, I know it's unusual for a girl to be into modding. Anyway, wow, 450+ hp! That's amazing! I'm envious of your custom coilovers. My installation shop really doesn't want me to get BCs...they didn't want me to get KYBs either lol as they didn't know there weren't Konis or Bilsteins for the FX, but after I told them, they still were saying KYB + Eibach or KYB + H&R would be better than the BCs, so idk if you would agree?

But the Geckos look interesting! Thanks for the rec. I can't find much info about anyone who has installed them long-term, though! I've watched a few videos on YouTube and seen their website and they seem like pretty nice components from a distance! I was looking at the G-Racing line for the separate ride height adjustment and camber plates. How would you rate them in terms of quality? Like, are they still considered entry-level, or mid-range? I wish so much I could have Fortune Auto or Stance. It's really too bad that there aren't more options for the FX when it's such a nice car, and suspension is such an important thing to making the car more stable with more aggressive driving. I'm actually even considering replacing the blown rear shock with an OEM sport shock from Infiniti (not KYB) for the better quality just to see how the stock sport suspension is, since I've never felt it when it's been working correctly since I bought the car with the shock and control arms already blown. The one stock sport rear shock is like $300+ lol which is almost more than H&R + KYB for both rears! It's crazy that the KYB shocks are just $50 each in comparison.

I already have a Stoptech stage 4.3 kit on the way (slotted rotors, Street pads, and stainless lines). I was seriously thinking about getting some remanufactured Akebono calipers while I was at it too since my OEM calipers already have 162k miles (although they work great still), but there is such confusing info online as to whether or not I need a knuckle for the rear (it's a 1st gen FX), whether the rear dust shield needs to be trimmed, whether or not I need banjo bolts--and if so, which kind--and then what rotors to put on the fronts (can't get a clear answer from anyone yet as to which car--2009 G37S? FX50 in which year?--that I figured I should just save up the money and eventually get a "real" BBK like Stoptech or Brembo designed specifically for my FX35 at some point!

Once I do the brakes and suspension, I want to have a plenum spacer (had one in my G and loved it). I know both my valve covers are leaking from having replaced 2 of the 6 coils and plugs already due to the misfires, so I think I will probably do all new double platinum NGK plugs with the Audi R8 coil packs at the same time as the plenum!

My current tires are pretty new, so hopefully by then they will get old lol and then I will think about changing the rims and tires then for something more aggressive! I have to admit I really do like the look of the stock 20" wheels, though! My favorite wheels are the Vossen CV1 but they seem to be discontinued, and they're not that light. I saw the Flow 1 R wheels are super light though and also very inexpensive so I was looking at those. So much stuff to do still lol.

Thanks again for the info on how to reach you! I'll definitely hit you up if there's anything else I think I want! I've never really been a fan of intakes--if anything I just put a K&N filter in.
