Traded my mercedes e class 4matic for 2012 fx35 awd after I Test drove pretty much every suv on market. My Mercedes started giving problems after 100k miles so I was in market for a sporty suv. I already own a 2014 nissan rogue so wanted something that doesnt drive floaty like rogue.
I owned a 350z about 10 years ago and I had it for about 3 months and traded it for a corvette c6. I missed my 350z overtime i drove that corvette( i like ground clearance, transmission and precision of 350z over corvette). I have been looking for a for a low mileage fx for about 4 years. In indiana its rare to see an fx for sale. Here is my breakdown of main suvs that i test drove .
Here is my experience:
When i saw fx35 from outside it looks smaller than other suvs i drove so i thought sitting position would be very low. I was shocked when i sat on driving position because I was sitting pretty high. It made me feel like i m sitting in a much more expensive vehicle(specially compared to acura and bmw)
When i started engine, free revving motor reminded me the 350z i had 10 year ago (no kidding). I test drove the car around the block for maybe 5 mins and traded my Mercedes same day. Infiniti did something right abt this car. An suv that is 190 inches long has a turning radius of honda civic(~18 inches). I was able to make a u-turn in a single lane road. This car is worth every penny.

- Mercedes ml350: drives like a truck. feels very heavy and around corners feels top heavy(55k car and no push start? seriously?)
- lexus rx350: ride was like a boat. my rogue drives the same
- audi q5: I liked the performance but reliability and online reviews scared me
- acura mdx: very harsh ride, feels top heavy, front wheel platform.
- acura rdx: this one was funny. It felt light and was very loud on road. After test drive i asked salesman if it was 4 cylinder and he said it was 6 cylinder.
- BMW x5: nice acceleration, nice interior but looks too big from outside and feel big from inside.
