Traded my mercedes e class 4matic for 2012 fx35 awd after I Test drove pretty much every suv on market. My Mercedes started giving problems after 100k miles so I was in market for a sporty suv. I already own a 2014 nissan rogue so wanted something that doesnt drive floaty like rogue.
I owned a 350z about 10 years ago and I had it for about 3 months and traded it for a corvette c6. I missed my 350z overtime i drove that corvette( i like ground clearance, transmission and precision of 350z over corvette). I have been looking for a for a low mileage fx for about 4 years. In indiana its rare to see an fx for sale. Here is my breakdown of main suvs that i test drove .
  • Mercedes ml350: drives like a truck. feels very heavy and around corners feels top heavy(55k car and no push start? seriously?)
  • lexus rx350: ride was like a boat. my rogue drives the same
  • audi q5: I liked the performance but reliability and online reviews scared me
  • acura mdx: very harsh ride, feels top heavy, front wheel platform.
  • acura rdx: this one was funny. It felt light and was very loud on road. After test drive i asked salesman if it was 4 cylinder and he said it was 6 cylinder.
  • BMW x5: nice acceleration, nice interior but looks too big from outside and feel big from inside.
After test driving all those suvs over a week time period, i gave up and started thinking all suvs drive, look and feel the same and i will go for something reliable and has good resale value. So went to honda dealership and got a quote for 2016 pilot. lol. While I was sitting at honda dealership i opened cars.com on my phone and found a black on black 2012 fx35 with 20k miles so scheduled test drive that evening.
Here is my experience:
When i saw fx35 from outside it looks smaller than other suvs i drove so i thought sitting position would be very low. I was shocked when i sat on driving position because I was sitting pretty high. It made me feel like i m sitting in a much more expensive vehicle(specially compared to acura and bmw)
When i started engine, free revving motor reminded me the 350z i had 10 year ago (no kidding). I test drove the car around the block for maybe 5 mins and traded my Mercedes same day. Infiniti did something right abt this car. An suv that is 190 inches long has a turning radius of honda civic(~18 inches). I was able to make a u-turn in a single lane road. This car is worth every penny.

Welcome, you made an awesome choice, hope you think so as well!
I do. My daily driver is rogue because i drive around 100 miles a day rogue gives better gas mileage. I am surprised that rogue is compact crossover but still hard to maneuver compared to fx35. Only complaint i have is the stereo. It doesnt produce sweet sound like my mercedes did. My mercedes had non bose regular sound system while fx has bose but mercedes still sounded better. Any idea? I have played music though bluetooth so maybe that is an issue? Ill see how a cd player sounds

I cant speak for the Mercedes, but my BMW had horrible quality compared to my FX, maybe look into aftermarket speakers? Honestly I have a subwoofer and that increases the sound quality tremendously for me

I think bass is nice in fx. I just think treble is weak. Do you listen to music via bluetooth on phone or listen to radio? I'll see how radio sounds

Stock speakers in the FX Bose setup are awful quality. If you don't want to redo the entire sound system or add amps, etc., you might look at a couple speaker upgrades. Infinity Reference series are a reasonably-price quick fix. They have the low impedance required with the stock set up.

I use an AUX cord for my phone, you can adjust everything, I keep the bass up, treble is like medium high, and I keep my speakers 10% more at the front than the back.

I tried different set up on bass and treble but sound is just too low. My rogue has basic radio with only 4 speakers but still sounds louder than infiniti. My fx35 has 12 speakers with subwoofer still sound is very dim. I always connect my phone with infiniti's bluetooth and listen to music via bluetooth. I am thinking there is something wrong with Bluetooth setup in infiniti
