Hello All,
I am a new owner of a 2011 FX 35. Everything is running smooth on it, but having some issues with the bluetooth in general. I have a scheduled visit to the Infiniti Dealership on Saturday, just to have them check it out and make sure that was is a good purchase and it's all up to date. For the most part, the previous owners of my new FX took it to the same Infinti stealership since it was new and had it serviced on a regular basis. I am an IT guy for the last 20 years, and well versed in Tech of all types. :)

Now that i got the baseline set. :) While i am there i would like to address these items below during my visit, and want to know if I have any recourse.

So here are my issues:

Issue 1: Bluetooth audio connection problems. I can usually get something to stream pretty well with my Galaxy S6 Edge, but most of the time when it first starts connecting after I get in it starts "skipping" during the stream, and then after a minute or two it settles down and works fine. Then while driving, it might randomly start doing it again. And sometimes it will even disconnect, or my app on my phone will just stop. I can usually mess with it and get it back up and working, but it's just a PIA.

So, i have scoured these forums and the internetz for solutions. I haven't discovered anything definitive yet as far as a solution. I know a bunch of you have had similar problems, and other people on other sites have similar issues. I know it's not my phone. I haven't discovered any TSB's on the issue that gives me hints of fix for the FX. I have disconnected my contact sync, and have deleted the phone out of the head unit and repaired the whole thing again, and registered it.

Interestingly enough though, I live in Smyrna, TN where someone told me that they make the newer FX's. My father-in-law ran into a local Nissan Rep, and told him about my issues with the bluetooth and the rep replied that that it was a known issue, and that "I could have the dealer replace the bluetooth "module" behind the built in NAV head unit with an upgraded version and it would be better. I figure most likely this will not be covered under warranty at this point. I do have an extended warranty through a 3rd party (by the dealer that sold me the car, not Infiniti) that will supposedly "cover" all the electronics in the vehicle. But i have yet to get the paperwork on that. Hope to have it soon.

I have checked on this forum for any reference to this bluetooth module upgrade that could be done, but you guys don't seem to talking about it anywhere. Also google searches don't seem to be pulling up anything.

So do you guys know anything about any of this, what my options might be, and what it might cost out of warranty by chance. If you do, and they tell me that they don't know what I am talking about, should I just kick them in the balls.

Issue 2: The use of my phone with hands-free auto. It sucks too.. My wife's Lexus works great and sounds great. My wife can barely understand me. It drives me nuts. It didn't work on my old car either which also drove me nuts. I was hoping to have this work wonders. I knew before i even bought the FX that this was going to be an issue. I read through all the forums here on it before I went an bought it.

I'm not 100% sure what can be done about this either. I read last night, that there might be a TSB that could affect this. This would come in the form of an update, and maybe even a microphone upgrade of some sort. But i checked using my VIN and I don't seem to be eligible for any TSB's like that. Could I be? I'm sure i wouldn't be covered for this either, but I am willing to shell out some coin if i can get this fixed. I could print out the TSB info and take it with me.

So how do i get this, how much might it cost, where should i kick them, etc... Give me some guidance if you have any.

I know there maybe other aftermarket things out there that may be able to accomplish these items, but I would really like these items to just work as close to stock as possible. Unless you guys have some killer tech that I am not aware of or a trick that I don't know about. I just want these two things to work as they should.

One day, I am going to get around to replacing the BOSE setup, but keeping the head unit, but that's a much bigger discussion for another day. I know it's going to be a bitch, to do it stealth. I did it in my last truck and it was a nightmare. But the bluetooth and hands free stuff i want to nativley work.

So that's it, sorry about the long dissertation. Just looking for some guidance.. You guys are great. Wanted to get started off on the right foot...

****** Update.... Just wanted to give everyone an update on my post and my visit to the Infiniti Dealership.

Went to the dealer to have them perform a courtesy check on the car after I bought it used from a another non-infiniti dealer.

Discussed with Infiniti the issues I was seeing with the Bluetooth and the Hands Free Mic.

They tested out the Bluetooth Audio Streaming and found no issues. It has been about 7 weeks since I took the car in and for the most part, the bluetooth audio streaming issues I was having, have seemed to work themselves out. For the most part it appears that all is working well. Every now and again, I will get a disconnect, and/or the stream will start "skipping". But it appears to have smoothed itself out, and rarely ever happens any more. Not quite sure was the deal was, and as far as I know, Infiniti dealer didn't do anything.

Now with the hands free MIC issue, they told me that there was nothing they could do initially, and that there were no TSB's concerning this for my year/model. I told them that this was unacceptable. They went back and discussed, and magically they came out and said that there was an "updated" MIC that they could put in (with a couple of other parts of some sort). The cost for this would be 500$ and they couldn't guarantee that this would resolve my issues with the quality of the mic during a hands free audio call. I was covered under a 3rd party warranty, so I had the customer service rep call my warranty company and tell them that the MIC was broken and not working properly, and that they needed to cover the claim. Infiniti Customer service rep said she would schedule an appointment for me to come in and get the work done.

Waited about 2 weeks, never heard from the girl at Infinti. Called her back a few times and left messages as well as sent emails. Crickets! Never heard back from her.

Ended up calling the main line, and found out this girl quit about 2 days after I was there. Nobody had picked up my case. Called the new representative, and left him a message.

He never freaking called me back either. Left 3 messages in total. No one called me back.

Finally called the main line again, and talked with the head guy over the service department. He apologized profusely, at my troubles and then got me an appointment. No one had any previous details of my "case" that had intially been started.. Which was frusturating. So had to start at square one. Dropped my car off at appointment time on a Saturday, and when I did, no one new I was coming and they didn't have any details of my new case that had been started. Even more frustrating. Had to explain everything again, plus leave my FX there for 5 days. Luckily they provided me with a loaner, which was an Infiniti QX60 which was terrible compared to my FX.

The head guy at the service department called me back when it was done, and apologized again for the frustration I was having to go through. He ended up comping the whole deal for me (500$ plus) and called it a "Good Will" job.

So, I finally got her back a few days ago, and all appears to be great now. Which was the ultimate goal here. I have made a few calls to the same people from the same spots I was initially having trouble in, and those people on the other end say I sound great now.

So, even though I had to jump through some hoops, I am all good to go now. And it cost me no money, and I didn't have to work out a warranty claim.

So very happy. Still frustrated how Infiniti can't seem to keep a case file on me, but oh well. Hopefully I won't have to visit them too often. I can say that everyone I spoke to at the Cool Springs, Tennessee location were very friendly and cordial. And that always makes things a little better.

So I am good to go. I meant to look on the receipt to see if there was a part number or something that I could post, but I left it at home. I will take a look later, and if there is any relevant information, I will pass that on.

Hey neighbor! Let me first start out by saying that Cool Springs Infiniti is a freaking clown show in their service department. They may be nice and cordial, but they are by far and large, morons. I could tell you a ton of stories with dealing with them with both my FX35 and my M35. They would all make you shake your head. Additionally, all of my friends with Infinitis have had similar experiences, so be careful when you deal with those guys. I even know someone who went there for an oil change and they lost their car for like 45 minutes.

I've used another shop on my M35 before in Franklin that was great. Inssan Automotive (specialize in Nissan and Infiniti hence the name) located off highway 96 and Carothers pkwy. They also have loaners.

I also work in IT. Welcome to the scene bud!
