Hey All, I have a 2011 FX35 that just hit 151,000 miles. She has been excellent to me for the most part. Think I replaced the Valve Timing Covers a few years ago for about 4000$ when she started stalling on me. Fixed the problem and she has been good since.
Till a week or so ago. Service Engine light came on. Scanned it, forgot to write down the code.
A few months ago we had like the VDC and the Slip light come on at the same time a few times in a few weeks and then it disappeared and never came back. This seemed to be a different code/error than I got this past week.
So took the car in. She just reached 151K and we are going to take a 800 mile trip in about a month.
My Shop, which gets good reviews, and I have been to a few times.. Offered me this.
They said the SES light was caused by cracked "Air boots". Said the parts were 1500.00 plus I am assuming labor and tax.
Asked me if I wanted to change I think Power steering fluid, brake fluid, rear differential fluid, spark plugs, oil change, and maybe transmission fluid. Have been thinking about the 150K mark and was wanting to do some maintenance on the old girl. She hasn't had spark plugs done in a long time, and I am sure most of the rest of that stuff has never been changed for the most part.
I also had them change out a DRL bulb that was flickering.
They quoted me 2500.00 for all of that. I went ahead and told them okay. Still waiting to get her back.
And then they told me, that I could use some new Valve Covers (mine were cracked) (which I would do most likely OEM) because mine were starting to leak oil in the engine bay. But that it wasn't critical, and that I could wait. They quoted me like another 2500.00 for OEM Valve Covers and about 700$ cheaper for After Market. At this point, I told them to wait on that.
I am not much of a car guy outside of the basics. But for some reason all this seems to be pretty high no? I can't and don't want to do any of this myself. I am old and my back hurts. But I love my ride. Seems like these are all good things that I need to get addressed. But it seems high. I am already going to be out what I authorized for them to do. But still need to probably take care of the Valve Covers at some point.. Does 2500$ seem high for installed OEM Valve Covers?
