NavTool FX35 non-rear dvd package

I'll be installing the navtool unit in my 05 FX35 which does not have the rear av factory option. I already have my aux input wired to the dvd/rear av button on the stock dash.

My question is, does anyone know if its possible to have this button also work a relay to work the navtool unit instead of installing a switch to work the unit? Is it possible to place a pressure switch being the button and/or if the stock button sends some sort of signal out of the stock radio? I'm trying to have a clean install and would rather not add a switch to my console if I can avoid it.

In place of a dvd player, I'm going to hardwire install a Western Digital WDTV media player. I will wire in a IR extender/repeater and hide it in a center vent as well to work the unit which I will either hide under a seat, in the glovebox, in the center console, or in the armrest storage. I'll be running movies, pics, and music off of a 2.5" external hard drive in either 500GB or 1TB capacity.

I am not familiar with the navtool unit but your mod sounds interesting. I have the navTV unit integrated with a alpine single din head unit and the oem stock screen. I use a switch to toggle the video feed to the oem screen. Please post your progress and instructions on this mod. Good luck!

ah, i meant to say a pressure switch behind the stock button, not being.


Anyhow, I finished the installation. It was pretty easy, but i'm still using their stock toggle switch to swap between factory nav and my wdtv video feed. I currently have the toggle switch hanging out the side of my center console. My only issue currently is I have some alternator whine, but the video signal is great.

I have the rear av/aux input connected by jumping the stock pins on the back of the HU and then using a signal amplifer to boost the volume. So the alternator whine could be introduced there at the signal amplifier or from the power of the wdtv since it is hardwired to the cigeratte lighter.
