Navigation upgrade review (in short, don't bother)

Got the NAV upgrade for my FX50s, since I figured the delivery one was a bit out of date and it would be nice to not xfer the Garmin between cars. I did the upgrade on my M6 and it was a good spend, as the new maps and features with the upgrade were quite worthwhile. So I decided to do the FX before my most recent trip north. Fortunately, I brought the Garmin as well.

Starting out in Tulsa after the arduous upgrade process, the unit gave me some odd routing on secondary highways. Knowing the routing I wanted (and that both Google and Garmin agreed was quickest to KC) I started up I-44. The routing kept steering me toward secondary (some 2 lane) roads, and I checked the routing setup to make sure I wasn't on avoid highways or somesuch. When I finally got to Joplin, the reason for the issues became clear. There was a little known back route missing off the map.

It is known by the locals as INTERSTATE 49

This is a 2014 upgrade, the I-49 designator for the old US71 went active in mid-December of '12. So this data is AT LEAST 2 years out of date on trivial stuff like INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS.

Besides that, the upgrade appears to have some additional functionality and graphics, but as it is very nearly useless for NAV, what's the point?

I have come to the same conclusion. I did the update about 3 weeks ago and out of 4 attempts to find 'places' of interest, it found one that was still current. Glad I got it on sale....
