hi guys,

just bought a 2005 fx35 with navigation. the dvd that's in there is the one that came with the car when it was new, hence, it's about time to splurge on a update.. here's my question though, are there any software/firmware upgrades out there? or is it solely updates to the maps? the software itself could really need a little update, but then again, I guess I bought an old car... ;-) Sorry if there's already an answer to this question on here, I've done some research, and some places they refer to an software update, some places say there's no such thing..
other than that I've invested in the mediabridge, going to attempt to innstall it myself, hopefully without breaking anything..

User interface will be the same. The software update is just to get you better landmark icons, enter and exit icons on the highway and a few more minor things. It gives you a better updated map and it hasn't steered me wrong.

In computer terms, this would be like a sp1, sp2 release of the current operating system. This is if your Into computers.

First of all welcome to :iS: and congratulations on the new ride.

Turtleg is right. It is just updates on landmarks, updated names of roads / streets and access ways. I recently moved out of NY and I would definitely recommend you to upgrade. Especially in Manhattan, there has been a lot of changes in road names, one way routes being switched multiple times especially going into the tunnels, the bridges and in Broadway areas. Exits has been renamed a few times which is why I did an upgrade myself a year ago.

Visit Navteq's website at: http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...ShowAllProducts=YES&PersistNavigationMenu=YES I believe the latest is ver 7.7. You can find the Navi DVD Rom under the seat of the front passenger's side and is accessed from the back.

Thanks guys! I will defintely get the upgraded maps, as mentioned, a lot has happened in manhattan and the surrounding areas since 2004-05.
