My new Polk sub & amp

Last weekend I made a subwoofer box out of fiberglass inside my spare tire. I got the idea from a thread I saw on here. It's 4 layers of fiberglass with a piece of 5/8" MDF on top. It fits perfectly in the spare tire and has about .8 cubic feet of air space. After reading pages and pages of reviews on shallow mount subs, I opted for the Polk MM1240. It's only about 4-11/16" deep and has great specs. I am also using the Polk PA-D1000.1 mono amp. It's giving the sub 500W RMS. The sub is rated at 425W RMS, but all the reviews I read said to over power it a bit.

Tonight I installed the sub and amp and all I can say is WOW! What a great sounding speaker. The rest of my system is still stock. I need to clean up my wiring and find a permanent place to mount the amp. Also, the big panel that covers the floor in the rear hatch area doesnt sit flush. This weekend I will be cutting a circle in it so it will sit flush. I will get some pics posted up once I get 10 posts. Thanks to everyone on here, I have learned so much for only having my FX for a short while.

Oh come on now, you know you have to show pic of work in progress. You know how much we love the before and after pics.

Pictures coming tomorrow. I had to work late the past few days so i didn't get time to snap some. I didn't get pics during the fiberglassing process but I will give a how-to. 'Til tomorrow!

Here's some pictures of the work in progress. I couldn't find any black carpet to match the factory carpet. Next on the list to do is recover the whole back area is hopefully some black suede, that way everything matches. I need to find a place to put the amp so it is more hidden. I was running out of daylight so I just threw the amp where it sits. I had to take out the handle to lift to factory cover. Next weekend hopefully I can fiberglass over the hole and recover everything.

Can you record a video of a song called Triple X rated - Excision?
I want to compare the bass of a song I know so I can tell how much of an increase in bass this would give me.

I would probably install a speaker grill on to that pronto by the way.

Yeah a grill is in the works. I need to find a good one online to order. Being in Guam is crappy for shipping. Everything takes a long time to get here. I have also put Dynamat inside the entire spare tire enclosure. I don't know if it helped at all, but it does look pretty.

Like the concept a lot. Flush with grill and matching carpet would be pretty sweet. Be nice if you could stealth stash the amp.

I think this is just going to be a temporary box. I couldn't stand to see the sub and amp just sitting in my closet. Next weekend I will get started on dropping the sub down an inch so the grill can be flush with the floor and I am still hunting for a place to hide that amp. I wish there was more space around the spare tire, but I don't want to lose my spare. I'll get more pics as progress continues.

You could mount the amp underneath the spare tire cover inside the spare tire area towards the rear on the right side. It look like you may have enough space the mount the amp there. If not, when you decide to flush mount the woofer just expand the cut out area in the cover to include enough room to mount the amp underneath if you are going to use a new speaker mount.
