My FX got keyed , DIY ?

Hey Guys,

Some ass**** keyed my rear quarter panel right thru the paint to the bare metal , looks like they used a screw driver or some other sharp crap.

Do you think it's possible to DIY fix or only professional body shop ? Anywhere I look they want at least $500+. I know the pearl white paint can be tricky for DIY...

That sucks, if it was me I would get it professionally done, especially with the white pearl since it is a 3 stage process at the factory.

Sorry to hear that man. Like Wayne said, get a professional job. So many things can go wrong aside from mismatch finish, over spray in unwanted areas may also occur.

Find that dude...beat him silly and take his wallet!!!

I doubt those punks even have a wallet

The thing is , the car is leased and I don't want to put too muc money into this as long as I can slide by without a big mark. I saw some of these DIY "kits" for $100 on the net but I think what they claim is highly suspicious...

I would also recommend taking it to a good body shop for repair but if you want to give DIY a try I would get a touch up pen (based on your color code) from the dealer.
Clean the scratch with rubbing alcohol then blow with compressed air. Shake the paint pen well then use the brush end to apply paint into the scratch. Depending how deep the scratch is, try several thin coats to build it up. Then brush a little clear on top. Its not going to be perfect by any means but it will help. You could also do a quick wet sand / buff after the clear has dried over a couple days. Make sure you let the clear fully harden.

Depending on how much you care, you can probably fix it with a touch up pen if the scratch is relatively thin. It won't be too noticeable depending on the angle and if you're not trying to spend much money, it will do the trick. A lot of those touch up products use artful photography to make the repair look better than it is, so buyer beware.

A pic would help. As others have said, the only way to get it perfect is a full respray of that panel. But there are plenty of options to make it look better but not perfect. A 6" long scratch is much easier to work on than a 2 ft. long scratch.

If it's white the factory touch up won't even match from the start. Since it's a lease definitely check a body shop, either way it's insurance or they will charge your when you return the car when the lease is up.

You could try Dr. Colorchip. If I remember correctly it's about $60. Look for you-Tube videos. I used it to touch up chips on the edge of drivers door, like 4" long. First try not so good. Cleaned up my mess, 2nd try ..... Poof.......gone. Exact color match, order with your Infiniti color code. Hey for $60 bucks worth a try.

If it's down to bare metal, then I don't think the DR Colorchip is going to work. it's great on small scratches and chips, but if it's that bad then I'm not sure how well it would work.
