The car I gave up to join the ranks of the M was a 1999 Nissan Maxima. In that car, I had an AWESOME Kenwood DNX8120 headunit, an Alpine 5-channel amp (PDX-5), a 10" JL Audio Sub (w1v2 I believe), and 4 Infinity Speakers and 2 Infinity tweeters.
The setup sounded GREAT. Lots of thump, but also lots of clarity. Being a musician, it was just right.
Since getting the M without many options (although I do have 8 speaker Bose option), I am sorely missing my iPod (for friends who have them), USB, and DVD capabilities that my Kenwood had. So I've set out on a mission (with the help of EniGmA1987 on the NICO forums) to implement an aftermarket system into this car (which is MUCH more complex than my poor old Maxima).
The result?
Here is what I will be replacing:
First up will be the Grom Audio USB module. I should be getting that later this week and will write up a HowTo guide on how to install it in a 2nd Generation M soon enough.

Here is what I will be replacing:
- All four door speakers with Infinity Reference 6032si speakers
- The two front door tweeters with Infiniti Reference 1031t Tweeters
- Installing a Polk Audio PA400.1 Monoblock Amplifier after the stock Amp.
- Adding a MTX re-Q sound processor to convert the signal from the stock amp to one the new amp can understand
- A 10" Alpine SWS-1023D subwoofer
- And finally the Grom Audio USB module which allows for connecting a flash drive, a 3.5mm jack (so basically any device with such an output), or an iPod.
