Megan Y-pipe

I was looking to get a Megan Y-pipe and wanted to make sure I would get the right one. I think they BOTH work, but not positive. Is there any benefit of buying one vs the other?
My other concern is that the Y-pipe's have a 3" outlet and stock exhaust has 2.25 or 2.5" inlet. Will that cause much of a problem?
Thanks in advance.

Assuming they both look like the ones in the picture they should clear the transfer case.

I think that they are the same even though they have different part numbers. The Megan Y-pipe will fit with no problems but you will have a bottleneck where the y-pipe connects to the mid-pipe (going from 3" to anything lower) causing undesired raspiness.
If i were you i would consider these 3 options here:
1) Buying the y-pipe and after, buying or fabricate at a custom shop a matching mid-pipe and muffller
2) Custom fabricate a matching y-pipe to your stock mid-pipe
3) Buying a full cat-back exhaust

I like idea 1 and 2. I've been looking for a place in NYC that does mandel bending but can't find one. Ark and Invidia sounds good, but not the type of sound I had in mind. I was going to get the megan Y-pipe and megan g37 axle back. If the Y-pipe will cause raspiness, I will just get the Axleback.

They have different part numbers. Why would you consider the one for the first Gen FX?
I assumed that if the HR and non HR y-pipes could swap, it would definitely fit. Wasn't sure about the one for g37x but it according to responses, it sounds like it should work also.

You would still need a matching mid-pipe... You will have a y-pipe that connects to a smaller mid-pipe, so buying the axle-back don't help much.
Do what i did. Buy the axle-back, drove it for a couple of days/weeks to see if you like it and then buy the y-pipe with a matching mid-pipe. Megan has a full catback exhaust for the 370z so start from there.
I have the Megan Axle-back from the G37 and it fits without major modifications; just need to extend the tips and cut/bent one hangar.

Y-pipe cause rasp? Interesting...
I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not but I have said it will cause rasp if the 3"collector from the y-pipe is connected to a smaller collecter from the stock mid-pipe. This is an information i've gathered from forums. If my provided information is wrong, please feel free to correct me.

Oh you're talking about the collector, not the actual y-pipe. I skimmed through your post and didn't pick up on all the details. That might be possible. I cannot comment as all my diameters match up.

The collector is part of the y-pipe, where the two inlet tubes merge.

From how I'm reading it, he's saying the rasp is caused by the step down in pipe diameter where the y meets the mid. Should be just south of the collector. I don't know if the collector affects rasp, but I know it's placement affects power gains.

I see what you mean. I missed his misuse of the term "collector". There isn't one on the mid pipe...

I've also heard about the diameter mismatch causing rasp, but that hasn't been my experience. For one thing, the OEM exhaust manifold outlets are smaller than the OEM cat inlet. Also, changing back to my stock cats from hfc's (exaggerating both the header-to-cat and the cat-to-y pipe diameter discrepancies further) is actually what cured my rasp.

I'm sorry if i used any of the terms wrong causing misinterpretation. I hope that you understand what i was trying to say. Long story short: mismatching the y-pipe outlet diameter with the mid-pipe is causing rasp. How much? I don't know but it is what i have seen on other forums.

No prob, I think we're all on the same page now. ;)

I don't think either Stu or I have ever had a diameter mismatch at the spot you're talking about, but I have them in other places and so does everyone else with an OEM exhaust...

From youtube clips, the 370z catback doesn't sound as good as g37 axle back. I guess starting with just the axle back would be a good idea. Thanks.

Do you have a vid?

Trust me, the Megan Axle-back sounds very good all alone. I got a lot of compliments for it. Unfortunately i don' have any vids of it but if the wheather gets better i will take some in the weekend.
Check out the videos of the Megan Axle-back on youtube. There are some G37's and an EX35 with it installed. The sound from the videos is very close to how it sounds in reality so you will know what to expect.

^ I got mine from B2autodesigns. Charles is a vendor here on the forum. If i remember correctly the price was around 440 but without shipping.
