Just got my Magellan 1700 today. 
I'll leave mine in front of the OEM location for now =p. Seems to fit with some double sided tape, lol.I'll properly install mine soon. Been too busy doing other things too.

There should be an update available. If the time is wrong on the unit, there is no way to adjust it, that just means its it out of date

Here is some info on the Magellan Roadmate 1700:
Auto starts/shutdown with ignition
Updated via mini usb to usb to latest firmware (Thanks Tko512iFX)
It can be hacked to run Mio (I'll leave mine alone)
The touchscreen has been really accurate
Sound is loud enough from the Magellan in the dash (not using AUX)
It's purtay!!! A lot better than the orange screen
People using iSimple, newest firmware is out that gives better support for OS 3.0. Had pausing/skipping issues, but it's been fixed =D.

lol, yeah. I've hacked my TomTom and Pioneer F500bt and I do not wanna mess with things anymore. It's a good idea to backup though in case you do hack it. I've decided to leave mine alone too. Will probably hack it after seeing what other cool stuff to do on it.

T_T I hate this mod. Been cutting, grinding, adjusting. Still haven't done the bottom screen. More cutting tomorrow =/. Enjoy! Used 3M tape and metal to secure it to the radio panel. Will probably find a better way to secure it later.

Looks pretty good but id grind more off the art were it sits so you cant see the white writing on the front. Def takes alot of grinding!!!
