So as some of you know my gtr rims came in damaged. Two are really bad and the other two had seller disclosed light scuffs. After contacting a few shops they seem to agree that it would be best/cheapest to repaint the whole set. The rims are gunmetal color now.
Here is what i need help with:
1) What color do you think will be the best on a black 1st gen?
2) Whats better paint or powdercoat?
3) Should leave the wheels as is until they really get scraped up then repair?
Seller is paying for half the repair

If I were you, I'd stay with gun metal and repair them to original style and condition as soon as possible. This will best insure you get the credit from the seller and then you'll be starting off your ownership with "brand new" GTR rims.

I would say confirm your refund before you do anything. If possible get the repair quoted out (just like a body shop estimate) get your cash due then decide how you want to proceed. Hopefully the seller is a stand-up guy, hate to see you get stuck with the bill if you repair before you get paid.

Also, I suggest to do paint. More choices, easier to control coating distribution. Based on some powder coat stories where the pad base gets messed up and it is not flat after coating or pc coat is uneven and wheels are difficult to balance.

Sorry the wheel purchase has given you problems man. I'm still irritated with dudes poor packing job......

More news!!! Im uber pissed now. Took the rims to Cascade Wheel for a quick visual and guess what? The wheels were painted before! Seller never mentioned that. From stock hyper silver to the gunmetal look. I knew something was fishy when they came in. The paint chipped easily around the edges, white residue on wheel barrel, and centercaps lighter than wheel itself. One rim might not even hold air because its chipped on the edges so bad (hence the powdercoat). Taking them back tomorrow to have them checked if they're still straight. One more issue and they're going back. Sucks that I have to pay return shipping.

Ps the seller already refunded me half for repair. Other half after ups decision. But that was for only two wheels and before me finding out they were cheaply repainted. Now I have to redo the whole set!

Zach at sws recommended PC also lance

That sucks!!!! I do remember seeing the chips and thinking that they should rub off but not chip off and the undercoat on the stock GTR paint is white....

Personally if my GTR's were hosed right now I would go with a Hyper silver not too bright but lighter than the OE gunmetal color.

Not sure re the PC vs paint, I trust Zach and David and they are fairly unbiased....

I gave the seller two options: take em back or pay for half the PC job (I know I'm being generous here)

Dropped off the wheels for PC. Gonna stick to the OE gunmetal color.

I didn't go with sws. Went with cascade wheel in Lynwood. Owner is a really straight up guy. They have good rep on forums and around. And he offered me a deal plus mounting and balancing my tires for free. Couldn't say no to that....
