LOCKED OUT of 03 FX35 PLEASE HELP

Hello All,
I have a 2003 FX35, 33,000 org miles, excellent condition. It has been garaged it's entire life. The battery has gone completely dead and I am locked out. The metal key for opening the drivers door will turn the lock but nothing. I am about to break a window, thought I would try this forum first. I've read about the lock mechanisms having issues with this model. However, this car has had no issues with the locks until the battery went totally dead. I'm thinking of trying to cut the hood latch cable to gain access to the engine, but how or breaking a window. Anyone had this problem and what can be done? Thank you so much in advance...
 
Twice now I've experienced this. Both times an expert has had to pry the driver door upper open with a pry bar and then reach in with a long piece of heavy wire like a coat hanger and pull the door latch. It damages the paint on the door but it works.
 
Oh my! Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sorry that you have gone thru this twice. I'm afraid it won't be my first time. I am going to try to have someone start it when I'm out of town for long periods. Did you have a locksmith come out when u say expert? And are you implying that a slim Jim will not work? I think that is what they call the tool that lock smiths use. Thank you so much for taking the time to share what you went thru...twice! Ooii....

I'm not sure if a slimjim will work.

If I were you I'd leave the car locked while you're away with the hood ajar and the battery negative terminal pulled. That way when you return home you can open the hood, reconnect the battery then unlock your car (unless you're afraid someone will steal your battery).

Actually, a solar battery tender would be your best option. Plug it into your 12 volt port and lay it on the dashboard or stick it to your windshield.

Not sure if that will work 100% since the 12v outlet is activated by the ignition. If its connected directly to the battery and not going through the switched ignition, then it will be more effective.

Good point. I think my trunk port is always hot. Need to verify.
