Lift Support and Stay Brackets

Does anyone have any experience replacing the lift supports for the hatch? I found some supports at LiftSupportDepot.com, called them to confirm and reassure me the quality and warranty as well as actually having a phone number. They are $100 less but do not come with the stay brackets. There is a how-to on their website that shows a guy carefully cutting the rod off of the ball socket. I don't have a tool where I can be that precise. Any suggestions? Or just purchase new brackets from InfinitiPartsOnline.com? They seem to be about $10-15 less than dealer quote.
I tried several searches on here and couldn't find a post. Please let me know if I have missed one!

Bump it.

I am starting to get annoyed with having to push my gate up every time I open it. I miss the full automatic lift open. I am wondering how difficult/possible at all, it is to swap those stay rods. Infinitipartsusa.com has them for $99.75 each which isnt bad, but only if I can actually do this swap myself.

Anyone have any history with swaping the stay rods on the rear gate?

I just wonder if there is any weird issue with swapping these out? I thought i read somewhere that you had to cut the balls off the end of the rods to remove the old ones or something???
