Let’s talk about engine/trans tuning the 09+ FX35’s

I’ve been considering adding the paddle shifters to my FX35, but don’t know if I want to go through the effort with the way the car shifts in “manual mode”. I picked up my car after having a manual in my last vehicle and am really surprised at just how slow the shifts are, even when driving spiritedly. Is there a way to firm up the shifts or make them faster/more aggressive? I’m not expecting dual clutch Lambo shifts or anything, just want something that would make the addition of paddle shifters a bit more fun.

As for the tuning, I’m not sure what all is out there for these cars. I’ve been on forums for all my previous vehicles and tuners/programmers were always a hot topic, but around here I don’t think I’ve seen any mention of it. Are you guys tuning the system to handle intake/exhaust mods or any other performance enhansers or are you letting the computer sort everything out on its own?

To firm up the shifts, you can get the Transgo kit for your valve body. It basically increases line pressure in the valve body so shifts are quicker - it's also less smooth but that seems to be what you want. However, if your issue is the lag between when you hit the paddle and when the shift happens, it won't fix that as it's a software issue.

As for tuning, there are a ton of threads on tuning. Search for Uprev or Osiris (same company) and you'll see. It's probably the most prevalent tuner right now; and you can also search the G/Z forums. Motor is the same so the tuning options are basically the same.

I have heard some stuff about Osiris being able to control shift line pressure and speeds, effectively doing what Transgo would do I think.

Yeah, I've read that as well. They can change the torque tables basically tricking the transmission into upping line pressure since it's "seeing" higher load. I don't know if they ever successfully found a good tune there though. I saw lots of back and forth where they were fiddling around with it to get varying results. It won't do anything about the shift lag though, just changes what happens after the shift starts.

Yeah, you guys nailed it. I'm not so particular about how hard it shifts, it's that delay that bugs me. I don't think paddles would do much good if there isn't a way to eliminate that delay. I did some more searching and a few others have mentioned this as well, especially when having to get on the gas in traffic. It seems to take second or two (literally) to figure out the throttle positron and then decide on what gear it wants. I know it's a luxury car, but still, that's a bit much.

Paddles won't help the shift delay nor will a valve body upgrade. The valve body upgrade will help how quickly the actual shift happens but not the time lag between ordering up the shift and the shift actually happening.

For what it's worth, go with ECUTek over Uprev. Just do full exhaust mods first and leave the intake end of things alone. Or...save your money (and warranty) and stay stock.
