K&N Air Filters for the FX35

I'm looking at putting in a K&N Air Filter in place of the dealer provided Infiniti dealer provided filter. I have a buddy who did and says his BMW X5 got a lot more pick-up and ran smoother with the K&N. Has anyone had luck with the K&N Air Filters in the FX35?

I personally think their a waste of money. I installed them and noticed no difference. On top of that the red oil that was applied to them in the factory dirtied the hell out of my throttle body plates and MAF sensors on my 09 FX.
 
I installed the filters on my ride too.. I mean make sense since it provides more airflow and pretty much require no servicing for at least 100k miles. Performance wise.. its probably too little to notice but I'm sure it helps.

As for the filter oil, I would try to absorb some of it with paper towels just in case it was over oiled. I didnt have any issues w/ mine but I'll check my throttle body next time I do my maintenance. If you're concerned, you could always look for a dry-filter replacement. I bought mine over a year ago when K&N was the only available "Hi-Performance" filter but there might be more options now. But regardless, enjoy your new ride!!

In about 3K miles check your throttle body and MAF's. They'll be covered in that oil:eek.:

I'm changing my cabin filter this weekend so I guess I'll take a peek at the throttle body as well. I'll post pics if there is that issue you speak of.. I'm hoping not though :tup:

Your filters were over oiled. When applied correctly the oil does not leave the filter element while in use. The K&N filters are somewhat notorious for having oil-related issues, but it is the result of user error, not a design flaw. I've cleaned and re-oiled mine probably six or seven times in the FX and never had any issues with the filter oil. I've also run them in many other vehicles with zero issues.
If you don't want to mess with the the application of the oil (totally understandable) then there are many other dry element filter options out there, but to say that the oil is inherently flawed is false. It can and does work fine for way more people than those who have problems.
