Hey guys,

I just moved to Houston last Monday. I got laid off at my job in Atlanta, so in the process of looking for a job here. My wife is from Pasadena and went to A&M, so I'm familiar with the area but still need to find a good dealer to service my car and good place to get my front windows tinted.

I look forward to getting together for a meet.

Hope to see you guys on the road.

welcome to H-town, John. Pretty sure we have the second largest city representation after LA/SoCal, so meets are pretty common. To get in with the locals, visit Houston-Imports.com and/or HoustonNissans.com. Also check out the TXFX regional section here on IS.

Plenty of good shops around town as well. If you are looking for a dealer, Sewell Infiniti has a good rep. Don't count out the Nissan dealerships as well - depending on what services you might need. Baker-Jackson Nissan actually has some knowledge in the tuning and performance areas.

For performance mods, fabrication or tuning we have three or four strong speed shops in the area. Welcome to Houston and good luck with the job search!

Thanks for the info! I actually serviced my G35 coupe at my local Nissan dealer in GA all the time. The labor rate is a lot lower for the same work.

I'm not looking forward to putting front plates on the FX :( will cops really bother me if I don't put them on?

Unfortunately yes - but you have a grace period where they might be cool about it if you have not yet had your address changed over to Texas.

if you want to keep the clean look, you have two options - look for the retractable plate mount that mounts inside the lower grille area OR there is a front plate mount that uses the tow hook attachment point. Either way you wont have to drill into your bumper and can remove the plate for shows or meets and whatnot. On my other car I actually have the plate on the dash, pressed up against the winshield. Not sure if that is legal but have not been hassled yet...

one would think doing that is more appropriate over not having a plate at all and a lot of cops seem to be cool with that but a very few of them have to be an a$$ about it.

Welcome to the area. I am just "down the street" in the Clear Lake area. Best of luck on the job search! I use Clear Lake Infiniti for major services, they have been adaquate thus far. Clear Lake Nissan might be a better bet. David Mc David Nissan is ok, my dad swears by them as he uses them exclusively for his previous and current Titans.

On a fun run not too long ago I was not yanked. I was sandwiched between my friends GT500 and a C5 on the way to surfside. The GT500 was waved over as well as the C5. Both received warnings for no front plate, I was waved on. I also received a ticket in my E46 once, never in the other cars. Depending on the department they are cracking down. Clear Lake area is fine, some of the others not so much.

Placement or mounting of the plate is not defined by the state. Local municipalities may have their own laws though. I ran without instead of having it in the windshield. Only got yanked once in Manvel, TX since 98 and received a ticket for it. I believe it was in 05 and I was driving an E46 sedan, he didn't write me up for my illegal tint though, just the no front plate...weird.

I haven't had a problem with not having front plates in the past 3 years. The cops really will only give you grief about it if they pull you over for something else, rarely will they pull you over just for not having front plates. It's not worth the paperwork, I'm sure.

The only time I was really harassed for not having plates was when i was 18 and had a dropped accord with a coffee can exhaust. Even then, it was on the dashboard stuck to the windshield with suction cups. Cop still gave me a ticket, so I don't think it matters if it's not on the bumper.

Welcome to Houston, and welcome to iS!

Thanks for all info. I'm almost at 3700 miles so I'll check out Sewell.

For the front plate, I have seen the mount the uses the tow hook. I had a link from another forum. Just gotta find it.

what this guy said :) but i had a civic thoo lol

do you work at that new building thats just been build, where tinseltown used to be ?

^ when they were moving to that building. i was trying to apply for any kinda of admin work... but had no luck.

Yeah, we only have a handful of admins and really haven't been hiring lately.

Until December, there was only one other company in the building. A third just moved in on the first floor, and I think they are starting to build for a fourth tennant. If I hear of any openings, I'll let you know.
