While researching the JX prior to its introduction into the market place, I saw lots of pretty decent professional reviews that pretty much peg this vehicle. What did seem a bit strange was that many reviewers seem to want to compare this to a performance SUV such as the X5 or ML. They love the technology, but tend to downplay the engine performance and CVT. Since my wife and I owned a Murano and understood the CVT, the negative comments didn't bother me. When they commented about the engine size, they just seemed to dwell on the engine should be a bigger or higher performance engine. I think what many failed to elaborate on was that this is more of a family or touring vehicle and not a sports car. I hate the fact that many of the public comments below each review tended to be negative and down right rude. My feeling is, if you haven't personally driven the car, you shouldn't make negative comments about it. I took those negative comments with a grain of salt.
I read enough to want to consider this vehicle and when I test drove it, I found it to be exactly what I wanted, and more. Now that the cars are being sold, the new owners are writing reviews, and many hit the nail on the head. Most comments are very positive, and are objective, rather than subjective reviews.
The Internet has made car buying more fun and interesting. You can go into a dealership and in many cases, know more about the vehicle than the salesperson. You know what you should be paying and the days of dickering back and forth between the salesman and manager are going away. What I love about forums like this, is that actual vehicle owners are taking the time and effort to share their experiences with others. As a matter of fact, some of the information my wife and I have found on this and another popular Infiniti JX forum have payed off. We still haven't taken delivery of our vehicle since its in transit, but we found out valuable information regarding the warranty we purchased (found out it wasn't an Infininti warranty and was able to cancel it). A forum member noted a dealership out of state that he had gone through and saved big money. We called that dealership and got the warranty we wanted for a little bit more than a thousand dollars savings.
The moral of the story is, these forums are very helpful and a great place to network. I'm looking forward to hearing what others are saying and to share our experiences too.
