Is this the right vehicle for me?

Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing a used FX35 (2007), just searching for the best deal around before I test one out. My last 2 cars were an 07 Audi S-4 and I currently drive a 09 Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep thing was a spur of the moment purchase I have regretted since I pulled off the lot. As much as I loved the audi I was getting tired off avoiding pot holes, swithing out summer / winter wheels, stressing out about where I parked, etc. I guess now I'm looking for the best of both wolds.

I travel apprx 22,000 mile a year, 90% highway. I am lookig for a roomy, comfortable interior, ipod integration, room in the back for my golf clubs in the summer, and my snowboard gear in the winter, roof rack, quiet ride, good handling and decent fuel economy (I got 20 mpg in the audi and jeep). I dont want to stess about hitting every bump on the road. I dont want to change out my wheels / tires for the winter. I would like to be able to hear the stereo while driving over 30 mph. Most importantly, I dont want to wave to anybody driving the same car as me.

This has already gotten to the point where nobody is going to read this, sorry. I guess I have a few basic questions:

Reliability? If I get a car with apprx 20k mile on it and drive 20+ a year, how long should it last and how much should I epxect to pay to keep it going?

Can it handle snow? Assuming AWD and 18" all seasons?

Based on what I am looking for and what I'm not from above, is this the right vehicle for me?

Thank You

a 07 FX35 will be a good purchase for you.
*make sure its the AWD version.
*average MPG on highway should be around ~20-24 mpg
*18" with all weather tire should be ok, some members here use a winter tire though.
*very comfortable ride (but it is still a cross-over, so a little bit stiff), take it for a test drive.
*you will have the factory warranty for a few more years on a 07
*the VQ35 is a very reliable motor, voted one of the 10 best
*maybe a few minor problems (covered under warranty)
*you dont have to wave back (just tint your windows) ! :))

Agree with all that Merchant said Plus

For what your looking for in terms of ride quality, seasons etc. stick with the 18's...the stock tires arent the greatest but they are ok.

It can handle the snow fine with 18's and a good set of tires...

I dont get alot of road noise and the ride is quiet however the FX has a unique sound...a little louder then most cars but not obnoxious. If sound bothers you make sure you can test drive one and see if you'll like it and remember that most Mod's done add to the sound of the engine.

Highway mileage after a few simple mod's i was getting about 23-26 at 70mph.

BTW I have had a Jeep G/C , 2 Maximas before this...and the FX is my Fav.

Thanks for the replies.

The exhaust note of my audi was my favorite thing about that car. I have heard the FX, and it is quite similar.

Found a few on the net that I will try to look at over the week-end. Cant wait to take one for a spin. I will have to dust off my haggling skills because they are a couple grand more than I would like to spend. I usually by new so I dont have too much experience purchasing used. I'm sure it depends on the dealership, but how much should I ask off the list price?

I wish I could add anything else to those 2 post up there.. But as they said it's a reliable car and if something goes wrong covered under warranty. Avoiding pot holes.. Well it all depends how big are they.. With stock wheels and tires you'll be able to go over small ones without having to worry about it. I own a 2005 FX35 I'm from NYC so I have done lots of driving while snowing.. Love it! The AWD kicked in right away keeping my FX straight. I'm stationed in MD and from my point of view in this freaking State there is rain every other day.. And my FX has done very well.. Anyways.. If you are looking for performace, space and reliability The FX is a great vehicle.. About waving at everyone that have one.. It's up to u.. You will see many of them out there.. It's a good SUV and it looks great!!

That was my 2 cents!

Hope this post help you a bit!

The waving thing is a bit of a joke. Its a Jeep Wrangler thing I guess. Every other car in New England is a Jeep and it seems like somebody is waving to me every three seconds. It gets a little annoying, especially when you hate your car. No offense to any Jeep Wrangler owners out there, I'm just not a "Jeep guy".

Welcome, and good luck with your decision. We all know you'll love it, but decide for yourself .
