Is there such a thing as a TPMS Module 04 FX 45

2004 FX 45
Hi, I'm still new here, jut purchased a 2004 FX 45. I was getting the TPMS light after 20 minutes or so and losing reading on two of the sensors. My car was purchased at Carmax and has a warranty. Took it in, they replaced all 4 sensors, told me the batteries were bad. After driving home I realized none of the sensors were reading, just the two ** so they never linked the sensors. No TPMS light either.

Took it back, they could not get the reader to read the sensors. They put a master mechanic on it, he reset the system if that makes any sense, I guess the main system? Anyway they said it has a tpms module and that seems to be the cause. I was a little suspect because it was reading the wheels before the new sensors. Turns out this part (module) is on backorder, not concerned as they will fix it but is there a module for the TPMS? I'm trying to reach them to at least get a name or part number while I'm waiting. If this module doesn't exist Id rather just take it to Infinity or Nissan on their tab. Thanks.

I'm sure that there is something that has to read the wireless signal from each wheel, seems suspect though that it was working, at least partially and now nothing. I don't have a part number for you, but I would give them one opportunity to fix it and then off to the Infiniti dealer.

Sounds like they never reprogramed the system. You have to use an OBD2 to program the tpms.

They tried to reprogram the computer system, I took it back after the initial install, guy could not get it working (sensors to link to computer) so I took the car back rather than leave it. Took it back last week for a few hours and they had the most senior mechanic on it. They did everything including re setting the computer, waited an hour and it didn't take. I quizzed them on scanners etc and they have the latest and supposed greatest scanner that covers every vehicle. After another hour they said there is a separate TPMS module that appears to be bad, they seemed somewhat confident this is what the problem is, told me they would call me when it arrives. They are cool about it and offered me a loaner if I wanted to leave it, they also offered for me to take it to Infinity. I figure when I drop it off for this module and it doesn't work they will have to take it to infinity, there is no cost to me but I'd like to get it fixed. This senior mechanic seemed to know his stuff but I've googled a bit and have yet to see a module, this is what they called it. i'm going to call next week and get a name and part number. Being the TPMS light is not on and none of the sensors are reading I suspect it may be something in between? The OBD picked up the sensors so they seem to be working, its just not linking to the computer? The part is backordered so I decided to do some research while I was waiting.

There isn't a separate module for the TPMS. It is a function of the BCM (Body Control Module). THe BCM controls/drives the operation of various electrical components on the car. I really don't think it a case of a bad BMC. My guess would be either they just didn't know how to register the sensor. Did you see they un-mount the tire to replace the sensor? When register the sensor, the tire pressure on each tire have to be a specific value in order for it to be registered. FL - 34#, FR - 31#, RR - 29#, and RL - 26# and then drives the car around at 25 mph for a few minutes. Did they do all of that?

I didn't see the actual work done. The last time I was there they seemed to exhaust everything before ordering this part. Based on the explanation of the mechanic and operations manager they seemed to feel it was this module, I appreciate the responses and Monday I'm going to call and find out what the part is they ordered. I probably should have just insisted they take it to Infinity but the manager felt really comfortable with the lead mechanic looking at it last time and this was the diagnosis. I have to assume this second mechanic either knows how to register these or made some calls. After they sent me home the first time without it being liked, then two hours the second time I called corporate Carmax in VA and they are the ones that set up this third visit. They were def expecting me.

they replaced all 4 sensors, I assume i had one or two with bad batteries. It would be hit or miss sometimes all 4 would register tire pressure then one or two would go to the stars and the light would come on. First time in they said right away it was the batteries and they ordered all 4. All I can se are the stems, these are black and not the chrome ones that were on the car? The car has factory chrome 20" rims, I googled some for pictures and I guess these come in black and also chrome? I plan on having my wheels powder coated so I was kind of happy I didn't get the chrome ones. They didn't have them in stock so they ordered them again I assume they ordered the correct sensors?

if they got the tools to register it they dont neew specific tire pressures. when they did mine, they slapped it on and programmed it in less then 5 mins

If they are OEM Infiniti sensors, aren't they easier to scan for and register? Versus aftermarkets need to be programmed or regitered first or something?
I thought I read something about that somewhere.

I asked them if they had the proper software in the scanner and they were pretty positive that the scanners they have are the latest scanners. I have to believe this as they run a pretty large operation over there. I dont know if they are OEM or not, they did order them it took a day or two to get them in?

I'm driving the car to the gym this morning, out of the garage 2 minutes, curiosity gets the best of me I click on tire pressure and there are all 4 tire pressure readings, so strange. Keep in mind they sent me home telling me they could not program them. I started this thread once I was told the mystery module was on back order. Anyway thanks for all the suggestions, I have no idea how it fixed itself other than maybe they didn't drive the car after programming as la_fx35 suggested. They seem to be working fine now.
