Is the rear hatch plastic?

So, I was removing my "FX35" badge this weekend, and I had to use adhesive remover and polishing compound... This is relevant because when I was looking for a hidden patch to test the adhesive remover on, I noticed the edges of the hatch didn't seem stamped from metal. Upon further inspection, I came to the realization that the hatch is plastic.
I mean, knock on the hatch and then knock on the rear quarter panel... they sound distinctly different.

Can anyone confirm this?

Observation is correct. The Hatch is a plastic composite.

Hmm... Me thinks this opens up a world of possibilities for modifying the hatch.... I'm going to go warm up my Dremel :angel:

It's actually mostly fiberglass. There might be an outter plastic shell for the sake of paint/finish durability, but the bulk of its rigidity/structure is fiberglass.

it is a composite, I dremeled the underside of mine last year.

That's actually just a fancy way of saying fiberglass with a polyester resin...
