INTAKES - Install guide help

Hi all... I am new to the forums... I have been following sometime now and since I pulled the trigger on the FX last Saturday, I thought it was time to join.

That said, I have been searching thru the forums and seen may discussions about intakes. From what I have gathered, it looks like there is no real CAI/Ram Air kit out of the box. I have seen that some of you have converted G37 intakes to fit.

For those who have done this, could you post up pics/write ups on it? Where you fabricated brackets etc..? It would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to :iS: and congrats on your FX. Glad to see more Ct members joining.

Welcome to iS.

From what I had heard, the HR engine is already optimized with the oem intake system. The aftermarket intakes will rob performance but will bring out the sound, if you like that trade off. Spend the money on different mods, imo.

Thats interesting... I would think that the factory filters would still be more restrictive than aftermarket. Even if they optimize the air flow with the piping etc, I would think the additional air flow would increase the performance or at the very least remain flat to OEM.

Has anyone felt a loss of performance from installing intakes?

So does anyone have any input on this.... Has anyone had issues with adding a G37 intake? What did you need to fabricate to secure the intake? Did you need to remove the stock inlet over the radiator? Which G37 intake brand did you choose and why?

I noticed on most of the pics I have seen, people have removed that stock air inlet above the radiator. Seems like there is enough space to have the filter sitting right by the opening, which would be nice since it would be fed cooler air...

I want to pull the trigger on this, but would like some feedback...

Thanks!

Basically there is no point adding an intake, there is no gains at all. I don't think anyone on a 2nd gen has even installed one because it's a waste of $ if there is no gains. I would use the $ on getting an exhaust if I was you and I'm pretty sure a lot of other ppl will agree.
