A few weeks ago I was finnaly able to get Infiniti to fix my shifter assembly. Acouple days after the 'fixed' shifter assembly I felt like the gears were strange, for example if i put it into R I would have to wait a second or two after to hear a click or something for me to know its in R.

Long story short my car died yesterday right next to a UHAUL center, they key turned over but there was no clicking or nothing. My FX had power the headlights would turn on the raido was working, I even got a random guy to jump me to make sure it wasn't my battery, I called my boss to ask him if he was in the area to come check it out on the spot before I called AAA. He told me over the phone to turn on the FX put it into Drive and then put it back into park 'he already know about the shifter assembly problem I had' Turned on like a champ.

I am extremely pissed off about this my shifter never had a problem until the Infiniti of Norwood laid their hands on it, what they told me was fixed just only caused me more problems !

what do you guys think I should do ?

wow this is crazy...i remember your old thread about the dealership and now this?! I would not go back to Infiniti of Norwood. I say take it to a different dealer and see what they can say about what the hell is goin on,after that figure out how you want to go about the problem. I'd say call and blame Norwood but i dont see how theyll pay up or admit to anything

Man you just have no luck bro. I don't even know what I would do in this situation. Probably talk to someone as high up as I can...

Automatic shifter linkages click into a track like a half-moon with slots so the car knows what it's in aka drive reverse or park etc. This is probably off a little bit that's why you had to come out of park and back in when it started. If I were you open it up yourself and drive with the console off seeing if it's in it's proper locations. Maybe to see if something is broke where it slips off track when you shift a certain number of times. They might have fixed it by putting it back on track like calibrating would be and then it slipped off again. Good luck but try yourself.

It's really frustrating to me that Infiniti dealerships are the ones that are supposed to be the experts. They charge expert prices, for sure.

But never have I ever had experience with a dealership that is worth the money they charge. Very few dealership technicians understand what they are working on, IMO. They follow instructions blindly. It reminds me of the special needs workers at the grocery store. They can bag groceries just fine. But ask them for independent thought or problem solving and it's hit or miss. Some techs do have a better understanding - dealerships usually have a shop lead or master tech that has experience. But in the end, dealerships are franchise businesses that want to make a profit. Most of the people that go to dealerships do so because they haven't taken the time to find a mechanic they can trust. Dealerships are "easy" to use as a default shop.

Warranty work and TSBs are one thing I would take to a dealership because it's "free". I prefer that diagnosing new problems should be left to an indempendent mechanic who has no vested interest in selling you new parts. Dealerships don't FIX anything these days. They just replace things. Example - my buddy has a pickup truck with a broken glove box. The dealership wants to replace it - I told him to come over to my house. Took off the broken plastic and just JB welded the broken attach points back into place. Looks brand new.

You can definitely elevate your problem to Infiniti consumer affairs if you want - couldn't hurt anything. You might not get the answer you want but they should at least respond. In any case, don't go back to that dealer for anything you have to pay for, and try to avoid it for things you don't have to pay for. It doesn't sound like they are competent or have good customer service.

Lesson learned for you - now go find a proper business you think is worthy of taking your money and working on your car. Somebody you can pay once for a job and will warranty or otherwise honor the repair.

I had similar problems with another luxury dealership and suggest working your way up the ladder, from service manager, to service director, to GM, and then to Infiniti NA (if you haven't done so yet), so that you can legitimately tell Infiniti corporate that you did all you can to get this problem corrected at the dealership level.

Another option that has worked for me previously, is to ask your service advisor to have a "troubleshooter" take a look at your car. Most dealerships have someone they consider the "troubleshooter" for those TSB-type problems which the regular shop mechanics can't seem to figure out. Some dealerships will refer you to the shop foreman, and others might have a dedicated "expert" mechanic for these things.

It will help if you have a pretty good working relationshop with your service advisor as most dealerships balk at the thought of a customer asking for a troubleshooter or shop foreman, as it makes them feel incompetent at doing they daily jobs of fixing their own cars.

But with the auto market so competitive these days, the luxury makers especially should already know that they need to put their customers as the #1 priority.

Good luck!

My BAD experience was with BERMAN INFINITI of Chicago. One of their workers was caught on security camera searching through my center console.
I showed video to the Sales and service director.

Their response was to warn the employees that "some" of the customers may have cameras in their cars so they should watch themselves.

If they had fired the guy, I would not have made a big deal about it but they covered for him saying that he was just being curious. there was no harm done, he was only in the my console for about three seconds....

Pissed me off so bad I posted it on youtube, contacted Nisaan consumer affairs and the local investigative news reporters.

Now I'm "curious" to see if anyone else thinks it was no big deal.

Drop Norwood and go over to Kelly Infiniti in Danvers.
Bring your previous paperwork from Norwood and see if they can figure out what is wrong.

I've had my 2003 FX and my current 2007 FX serviced at Kelly's and they take care of me...it might be a hike to the Northshore, but it's worth it. I live in Brookline and I'm only 5 minutes away from Herb Chambers, but I go to Kelly's. Norwood is just 10 miles...I won't even bother with them!

Hope this helps.

When you can't trust your dealership techs, and when alerting the problem to the Service Director doesn't help, it's definitely time to find another dealership/shop you can trust.

I had a similar problem several years ago at a luxury dealership -- so I stopped going there, sold my car and I will not purchase a car from them in the future (don't worry, it was not an Infiniti).

You'd think that with our crazy economy and with businesses hurting, you would see an improvement in service and a movement to retain customers...but noooooo.:frown:
