I painted my stock 21's.

Lopks great, keep them full time.

Thanks. I'm definitely keeping them full time. This weekend I'm taking them off to add a few more coats of paint so the unavoidable small rock chip won't be noticeable. Then these will be the full time rims. If I get tired of them over time I will end up stripping them and changing the color.

Time to change your Avatar, love the look with your painted 21's and the chrome pillars removed :good:

Nope...not me. I have a slate blue EX. Was trying to wait for the nice weather to start working on it, but that is clearly taking longer than expected. Lol

Yeah for real, this long winter sucks. Since when are we still pushing high 40's damn near a month into spring? At least they started patching the pot holes already.

It's a 100 times better now so imagine how bad it was before they started repairs.

Very nice pics, your FX keeps looking better and better.

Thank you. Next up full chrome delete, samsung media hub, so I can mirror my phones screen onto the stock LCD, TVS in the headrests for the little princess and hopefully a sound system to put the stock system to shame.

I'm just trying to figure out how I want to do the chrome delete, I'd like to use some of the same color I used on the wheels but I want to do it without looking tacky so I have to figure out how to do it so it's subtle.

Sweet DIY! I may try something with my stock 20's

Thanks.

Go for it. The hardest part and it's not really hard it's more tedious and time consuming was taping off the wheels since I didn't remove the tires. It takes a long time since your basically tucking four inch long pieces of tape, behind the lip, one at a time, all the way the way around the tire draping plastic over the tire the repeating the tape process on the other side. I swear to you most of the time went to taping, once you start spaying it's an easy job.

Just prep, prep, prep it's the most important part of the job, make sure you clean ALL of the brake dust and grime off the wheels. I used Armor All wheel cleaner, it comes in an orange spray bottle and works really well to remove grime. It's what I use on regular basis and once you spray it, you see it immediately starts breaking down the grime and it works wonders to remove that browning that happens to tires over time. Then I used the orange Zep degreaser to wash the wheels along with a Mr. Clean Sponge to purposely lightly sand while degreasing. Then I used CRC non-chlorinated (green can) brake cleaner, on a regular sponge, to make sure I got the grime off and the wheels down to a dull surface. You want them to look somewhat ashy. Then sand them with some light grit sand paper. I think I used a fine 200 grit 3M sponge with the angled edge to help me get behind the lip. They also sell this 200 grit sandpaper, with a rubbery non-slip backing in packs of 3 or 4 sheets that have perforations so you can tear one sheet into two smaller sheets. They are white colored and have 3M written on them in red. They came in handy to get into the tight spots the sponge won't maneuver well in. Use the brake cleaner sparingly it eats the stock finish up if you spray too much and leave it in one spot too long. You will see the stock paint start to bubble and peel off. It's not big deal since you are going to sand them anyway but it just creates unnecessary work because now you have to make sure you sand all the bubbled areas so it doesn't peel under the new paint. A lot of DIY's suggested using brake cleaner and I'm glad I did because after using it there was no question the grime was gone. You literally see the finish get dull and ashy looking. After sanding, tape, prime and paint. Don't forget to tape off the tire vavles, I forgot on the first wheel and didn't realize it till I was halfway done priming and it was a B*TCH to clean well enough so that my OCD didn't let it bother me lol. Good luck with it.

By the way I bought all my supplies (including paint) except for the brake cleaner at Home Depot and bought the brake cleaner at Pep Boys.
