I just accidentally bought an FX50s

Car
2004 FX35. 2005 FX35. 2009 FX50s.
Hello all,

I've been away for a bit. My 04 35 is running amazing after a battle with a misfire that ended up being a bad ECM. Now, it runs better than when I got it years ago.
My wife and I were out for lunch today and stopped in to the local Porsche dealer. We left a few hours later with a 2009 FX50s. 83K miles and seems like every option. It really was a bit of an accident, although we both love the FX and had talked a bit about getting in to a newer one.

I now have a ton of research to do. Looking forward to it! No pics yet as the dealer wasn't able to get it all cleaned up and detailed. a few scuffs in the black paint that they will buff out and a few other bits to get cleaned up. Pics once it's all shiny.

We now have to decide if we are going to be a 2 FX family...

Congrats on such a wise accidental purchase!
Sounds like the right transition. Can't wait to see more!

i wish all accidents were this beautiful.. welcome!
people on this forum are very helpful and friendly, there's a ton of reading to do so "search" function will be your best friend. Otherwise feel free to shoot any questions and someone will answer it for sure.

Good move. I also had an 04 fx35 and after a bit of a hiatus returned with an 09 fx50. Great car and a big step forward from the 35 as far as power goes. Good luck with it.

I haven't had a chance to drive it yet! It's been a couple days, but I can't seem to pry the keys from my wife's hand. She came home from work with a big smile saying something like - well, this one has a lot more punch than the old one. I guess I'll be driving the 04 35 for a while. She thinks we should sell the 04, but after getting it running so damn good, I don't know that I want to. All I have left to fix on the 04 are the door locks (already have the actuators), drivers seat memory and the seat switch on the passenger seat.
Maybe I can sneak a supercharger under the hood of the 04 and surprise her in a race? Nah, she'd still dust me.

I'll look around here, but is there a specific section for the 50? I've got to do a bunch of research on the common problems of the 2nd gens and the 50 in general, find the preferred oils, filters, upgrades etc. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the thin service records. I don't think the previous owner was much for keeping notes. They kept the car nice, just not the documentation. I'll probably do the 90K service early just for the peace of mind.

Already ordered the jumble of adapters and cables to make the 09 work with the newer phones. Found a great post on another forum explaining how to do it. Any of you with experience tell me if this sounds right: Nissan adapter to apple 30 pin, 30 pin (12v) to 30 pin (5v) charge adapter, 30 pin to lightning adapter, lightning extension cable to phone. It will be a bit of a bundle, but I'll package it up in the center console and run the wire up to where she wants her phone mounted. That will enable all the audio and charging, and she can bluetooth the phone calls.

One last thing - WHY DID I BUY ANOTHER BLACK CAR!!!!!! I swore I would never buy another black car. Uhgggggggg

Not sure if that's right, but you might wanna buy some of that shrink wrap stuff to put around where the adapters connect so they don't come apart while driving around... Opening up wherever you hid the wiring would probably be a pain!

Great idea!
All the connections will be in the center console, and be accessible, but shrink wrap will make it look better.

I’ve noticed sound sounds / noises that may or may not be normal. I’ll dig in to some research and see what others have found.

It’s not the smoothest car ever, but it is a ton of fun. I might consider changing out the 21” for a set of 20” to get a little more side wall.

Welcome! My wife/COO remarked on vehicle noises when we first brought our '14 QX70 base V8 home. Other two Nissan V8s in our family fleet (yes, I have a problem!) make similar popping/groaning noises, esp. during warmer weather. Read somewhere that popping the hood for an hour or so allows heat to more quickly dissipate from the engine bay. And as for smoothness on the 21s: I'm no retro muscle expert, but suspect it's a whole lot smoother than a big-block late-60s StingRay, Hemi 'Cuda, or other monster that does 0-60 in 4.8 ticks!

I beg to differ...my '69 Charger R/T rides like a Lexus compared to these bucking bronco's LOL :)

Congrats on the purchase. I am still very happy with my 09 FX50, just hit 90k. Rather than using all the cable adapters I just put an airplay (or bluetooth) adapter in the center console and connected it to the power and the audio input there. May not be what you want but this way I can just use a normal charger for my phone.
