How much room is under the center console?

I'm trying to figure out a clean solution for carrying a pistol in my console. (I'm in the south... it's perfectly legal as long as the gun is in a latchable compartment or container). The center console on the FX meets this definition.

I don't have enough posts to add a url yet, so I hope that the Mod's won't get mad at me for adding this: texascustomholsters dot com/holsters/glock/glock-17-22-and-31/

I promise I'm not trying to sell anything, but you can get a feel for what a console mount would look like by looking at the pictures.

I tested one of my compact pistols (Kahr PM45) and it fits almost perfectly. However, I would like the option to use a full size 1911 style pistol. The console isn't deep enough, so I would in theory have to cut a hole in the bottom of the compartment and actually mount a slightly different holster through the bottom. My question is: Is there enough room under the console for 2-3" of gun barrel and holster to stick through, and if so.. is there anything that moves under there that they might interfere with?

Do you really need a gun in small town being a financial advisor? Just wondering how bad is down there?

You never know, plus keeping one in the car isn't a big deal. I don't carry, but have friends who have gotten into situations where a gun prevented potentially bad situations.

Umm I think it's a big deal

I think with that kind of mind set of keeping a gun in a car will make you want to show it and bring it out more even for not life threatening situations. There's no need to keep a gun in the car lol it sounds ridiculous. If you really wanna be "safe" put a bat in the trunk..

You think it's a big deal because of where you live. Shadow and I both live in the South. EVERYONE has a gun. It's actually more likely that people have multiple guns than no guns. SC is a concealed carry state. I estimate that over 90% of the people I meet are gun owners, and probably half are carrying concealed. The cops love it. There are tons of guns in the hands of law abiding citizens and criminals think twice before they mess with people. There is no fear involved with having a gun. I view it the same way I view my spare tire, fire extinquisher, jack, and first aid kit. Just another tool that I keep in my vehicle that is there if I need it... but I hope that I'm never in a situation where I actually have to use it.

With that out of the way..... anyone have any insight into the technical aspects of my question?

Don't want to play moderator here, but this is not the place to debate gun ownership/control. This is one of those issues where minds won't be changed by a couple of posts. I certainly don't agree with the political stance of certain people on here, but I am not here to have those discussions. We are all Infiniti enthusiasts and let's stick to that.

It's actually quite the opposite. I guess in areas where no one has a gun... one might expect to pull a gun and show someone who's boss. When you fully expect the other guy to have a gun as well... you tend to think things through. Yes, there is a quiet confidence to knowing that you have the ability to protect yourself... but there is also the fact that if a gun comes out... someone is going to jail at minimum and most likely that is the best situation that can come out of it. NOTHING good comes out of pulling a gun on someone. It is only ever worth the risk if your life is in serious danger. I live in a state where pretty much everyone is armed. I have NEVER in 35 years seen a gun pulled on someone. It does happen sometimes... but I would wager that it happens more rarely here than in areas where no one is armed.

And that's why you're my hero.

OP, the console removal is easy. Just pull it and find out. Nobody is going to be able to tell you if your pistol will fit. Is there some room? Sure. Is there enough? Only a test fit will tell you definitively.
